Here's an RPG review from the VGC!
This is a nice game to play before bed - it should help you fall asleep!

Interesting. I haven't played I Am Setsuna yet, but I heard it was modeled heavily off of Chrono Trigger, an RPG you actually liked. What would you say makes them different?

Chrono Trigger was a guest review.

I was emailed by a helpful reader that the save function is available when you are on the world map.
I'll probably add a note to the review, but I still think the save system stinks.

Given that this is a portable game, the most important thing is to have a save option. You are on the tube and you have 20 minutes to play. You need to be able to save there and then. When it is linked up that is not a problem. For me I would need duality in the save system to allow me the flexibility to use it wherever I was.

For the looks of your review it seems lacking in that department.

I have a couple of questions. I have not gotten a chance to play this one yet.

The save system is exactly the same as every other JRPG, from Final Fantasy to Chrono Trigger. The review seems to frame it as unique in some way. Nevertheless, I can understand not liking it.

Do you think the knowledge that you can save anywhere on the overworld would have helped your progress in the game?

Based on the other reviews I’ve read, I thought the battle system was lifted directly from Chrono Trigger. The ATB system you mention is another staple. Given that this game is essentially Chrono Trigger, has your perspective on that game changed as well?

You mention that the game tries to reinvent the wheel. If anything it seems we could fault it for not reinventing anything at all.

I complained about Chrono's save system in my DS review, but the original game is 20+ years old so we can cut it some slack.
I wouldn't have affected my progress. If anything, the lack of save points kept me playing long after I had lost interest.

Outside of the lousy save system this feels nothing like Chrono Trigger. The battle system is terrible.
It may have been "based" on the same system, but it is not the same.
