Picnic and Eggomania are brand new reviews, although the Air-Sea Battle is an update.
Those who have been on the site long enough can clearly see my progression over the years.  I think my newer reviews are far more imaginative.  Let me know what you think.

i dont remember your old air-sea battle review, but i agree with your new line of thinking, atari games were at their best when competition against another good player is involved. in this day and age, that gets tougher and tougher to find, as most gamers under the age of 30 wont give atari era games the time of day.

Well, I guess MY review of A/S battle had some nice effect!

I agree mostly with you, except that the game can be fun for one player as well. At first, the challenge is to try and score 99 points (the game stops at 99) before 2 minutes 16 seconds are up (WHY is it 2' 16" in all these old Atari games!?) ...once you can do that, time yourself, trying to score the 99 as fast as possible. It is easy in Target fun, not so easy in the airplane and sea versions. I've yet to get under one minute.

I do agree the ship vs. plane games are boring.

Ah, Air Sea Battle...now that was a game for simpler times (more simple??? more simpler???)  I think a B- is a fair grade, but I think games made in 1977 for the 2600 should be given a bonus since they came out right when the 2600 was released.

I'm surprised you didn't enjoy Eggomania, its one of the better paddle games available for the 2600.
i dont remember your old air-sea battle review...

Here you go:

Air-Sea Battle (Atari 1977) D

I'm sure many people have fond memories of this early Atari cartridge, but in truth it's fairly dull. Air-Sea Battle is a simplistic target shooting game with 27 variations that let you fire large square missiles from cannons, boats, or airplanes. The graphics are plain and severely blocky, but the main reason the game is a drag is the slow speed of the missiles. You can only fire one at a time, and it takes a good five seconds for it to clear the screen. The game moves at a snail's pace, and the single-player mode features a brainless CPU opponent that simply fires away continuously. Air-Sea Battle is good for nostalgia's sake, but little else.
