VGC has 360

Postby VideoGameCritic » March 4th, 2006, 11:00 am

Attention: The VGC has acquired an Xbox 360.
Repeat: The 360 Platinum edition has been secured.  Reviews will be forthcoming.
Picked it up at Target this morning.
And yes, the VGC is giddy as a schoolgirl at this time.

Nice one!

What games did you get with it?

Did you know the music visualiser is playable?  It can even be played by up to 4 players apparently.

They have a series of control tutorials on it:

Hey Critic,
during the course of your reviewing could you do me a favour if it isn't too hard?  Could you hook one of the games up to a standard TV and tell me if it still feels next gen?  I really want a 360 (and there are a ton to be had around here), but have no interest in a HDTV yet.  I keep wondering if it will be worth it with just a normal TV.  If it's too much trouble, never mind.

I got you topped Dave..........

I bought a 5 dollar lottery ticket at work and won 500 bucks. I then put the money into my checking account. I then went to EBgames website and ordered an Xbox360 bundle for $640(with shipping and taxes). That means that I've scored an Xbox360 with harddrive, 3 games, and an extra controller for about 140 bucks!!!

MUAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

********i'm waiting for the creditcard approval email, it's torture!

Just curious Atarifever, but are Canadians reacting the same way to the 360 as the Japanese? (Utter disinterest?)

BTW, are you from BC or Vancouver bychance?  (I'm a grad student at the university in Bellingham, which is right on the border by Vancouver.)

The thing is that gaming in the East takes very different forms to here in the West.  Canada is like America and Europe in its games taste.

Um, yes.  I was referring to the following quote: "I really want a 360 (and there are a ton to be had around here)."  This would indicate that there isn't such a huge run on the systems in Canada as in the US--I thought this might imply that gaming tastes are perhaps one of the minor differences Canadians had with Americans.

There are many significant differences between Canadians and Americans--in the realm of politics, there are many examples.  (For instance, there is a major socialist party in Canada, the NDP, while the US has only one elected independent socialist in Congress--Bernie Sanders.  Well, I guess there is the DSA faction of the US Democratic Party, but that doesn't count.)  There are minor culinary differences (Canadians can actually *tolerate* eating Poutine), and the political and social approach to creating a multiethnic society is much different. (Canada is officially bilingual and encourages "salad bowl" multiculturalism, such allowing Vancouver to turn into a Chinese colony, the whole fiasco of Quebecois separation, and allowing Sharia courts to operate.)  As of course, Canadians are into hockey, while Americans prefer football or baseball.  (I'm not much of an expert on this, as I don't care about sports.)

As you can see, it is perfectly reasonable for me to think that gaming is one of the areas that Canada may diverge from the United States on.  Especially considering the huge amount of Oriental influence in Western Canada, one may presume that Canadian tastes run along Japanese lines, rather than American.  (And yes, of course I've met actual Canadians before, as I live on the border.)

Hey, Atarifever,

I have a 360 on a standard TV.  (I've had an Xbox since launch, so I feel that I can compare the two pretty accurately.)

The 360 looks A LOT better than the original Xbox.  I've got four games for it (King Kong, Call of Duty 2, Madden NFL 06 and Condemned.)  Those that don't feel it's much of an upgrade are probably looking for something comparable to the leap from the PSOne to the PS2.  It's not THAT big of a leap, but when you go from playing Call of Duty 2 back to playing something like Republic Commando on the Xbox, there's a noticeable difference in the graphics and overall feel.

That's my two cents...but your mileage may vary.

So when can we expect the 360 reviews? I am really interested in what you'll have to say.....
