Still, it should be implemented better, such reducing points.

*fine print*.......except about R-Type Final and Gain Ground.
Another point I should mention is that I'm a proud Neo Geo CD owner, and all those games have unlimited continues too, so it wasn't so unusaul to me that Metal Slug 4/5 would be the same.

I have to say your logic is deeply flawed, you act as if the arcade version didn't suck. Who gives a damn it the translation is 100% if the game isn't fun to start out with? Why not fix some of it's many, many problems and make it balanced like the rest of the games. Having unlimited continues is a band aid for a game like metal slug.
Yeah, a lot of classic compilations have unlimted continues but most of those games aren't finite anyway. Metal slug on the other hand does have a set amount of levels, so unlimited continues should not be needed. However thanks to severe balance issues they are.

Even if you take out the unlimited continues Metal Slug 4/5 is still a C- at best. The level design is weak (Zombies?), the weapons are weak and the as far as I am concern the game isn't very fun. If you tell me an arcade game is supposed to be frenetic and difficult that is fine, I like a challenge but I don't consider playing the same short boring levels over and over again fun. There is just too many better shooters out there then to waste your time with this one.

Maybe it's just me but I thought it was lame and didn't really fit into the rest of the game. Plus, like I said, I really hated the slowdown.

[/QUOTE]Turning into crazy things (zombies, mummies, an obese slob) is kind of a staple of the Metal Slug series. The second level of Metal Slug 3 you could turn into a zombie and it was pretty much done for the humor factor. Though its also very strategic to turn into a zombie since human soliders and vehicles can't harm you while you're in that state (you can only die from other zombies). Also its worth mentioning that the violent blood puke bomb is very powerful and its a nifty trick to kill the boss at the end of the second level in MS 3. Once I got really good at the level turning into a zombie never was an issue because I always avoided the slimey discharge that transformed you! Metal Slug is meant to be played to perfection and I cannot stress this enough. I cannot tell you how many times I played the brutal levels in MS 3 just to get better. Also try playing with a friend, it makes the game that much more fun.

I have to admit personally I liked the zombie level in MS3, like Just says it was quite strategic. However I found the later levels in MS3 just too punishing, particularly the bosses to make it worthwhile to play them to perfection. MS 1 and 2 had the balance just right in my personal opinion.

I think the programmers realized this flaw with the Metal Slug series, so they added baddies like Zombies, aliens, yeti's, and mummies to add some much needed enemy variety.
I can't really fault the zombie thing, with this line of thinking anyway. Would you rather shoot that green-army guy for the 10000000th time instead?
