Who will actually buy a PS3?
1. Do you actually have $600/$500 to spend on a recreational gaming machine? I don't mean to you have $600 in your wallet. I mean do you have that money to spend on a VIDEO GAME.
2. If you do/were to, would you actually spend it on a Playstation 3?
This should be interesting...

I have the money for a 360 right now, in my account, put aside specifically to buy a 360 since earlier this month. To tell the truth, I'm having a hard time bringing myself to actually go in and buy it because that's a pile of money. The PS3 will be $659 here, which will be almost $200 more than the 360 after taxes. I can't see me blowing anywhere near that kind of money on it. In fact, It'll take the PS3 coming down to *less* than the 360's current price to get me to buy it, and only then if Blu-Ray flops (I've explained my reasons for disliking the new formats elsewhere).
The reason I say it would have to be less than the 360 is that once the PS3 drops to the price of a 360, I'll already have one next generation system, so I won't be getting as much of an upgrade as I am now buying the 360 at that price. In fact, I already have the Wii set up as a Christmas present (well at least an IOU for one), so the PS3 would be my third next generation console at whatever point I buy one. Thus, it'll need to be, say, <$300 Canadian at the most before I'll bite.

$600? Big deal! I'm buying a PS3. For $1,300 I'll have all three systems. Who am I fooling...I'm buying all three systems!

things: We haven't even SEEN the actual system yet, nor have we really seem what the Wii will be really like/ what it can do.
But even then, in 2006 $600 is way to much to pay for one entertainment device. For that I could buy a PS2 and a GC, and a mess of games!!! Sony is pricing themselves out of the market, just like they did with PSP. If the PSP cost around the same as DS, you would see MANY more PSP owners then you do.
At any rate, I'm still working towards getting a PS2. I'm
always late.

I had planned to stay out of this gen. But then a 360 was bought for me.
The pricepoint for the PS3 is ludicrous. For that much money I could get an XBox 360 and afford to upgrade my PC to play the latest games. I'll take those two options over the PS3 anyway.
So no I won't be getting a PS3.

No for some key reasons, it offers up nothing new and all the games I want to play are being made for the wii. Dragon quest and mario is all I need. You can keep your flamboyant and terrible final fantasy and re-hashed platformers.

[/QUOTE]Don't upgrade your computer; go Wii60 instead. It's like a two for the price of one sale. That's my plan anyway, and I don't seem to be alone.

Of course, I am only buying the systems if they are worth it. So I won't be shelling out anything when they first come out. I am not sold on the Wii or the PS3 just yet. However, I wasn't sold on the 360 right away either but now I want one. So the fact that I will spend $1,300 on three systems makes me wealthy elite? I think that is a dumb comment to make. I mean, people spend twice that on a good computer so what is the big deal. I don't think $600 is too much to pay for a system IF it is worth it. I believe you get what you pay for. I don't want to start a DS vs. PSP war again but I haven't touched my DS since I got my PSP. The PSP games are just that much better in my opinion. Even the Mario game can't conceal a weak 2006 line up. By the way, Field Commander and Monster Hunter are awesome! Back on track....I think $600 for a system will keep a lot of people out of the mix b/c it is expensive but every time I stop by my local Gamestop I always ask the clerks what system people are trying to reserve the most and the answer is always PS3. I don't think Sony will have any problem selling its systems. Just like sports, they are the Champions until dethroned and that hasn't happened in the last 11 years.

1. I have enough for an XBOX 360, but not a PS3.
2. I won't be buying either. The money... it's just... so... MUCH.
