What do you like better modern or classic gaming?

I like classic games like Pacman better!

I really cannot decide as I love them both in different ways.
I love today's long epic games, but usually only play them once or twice.
I love the replay value of classic games.

Classic.

Modern games usually forget the golden rule of gaming..."Easy to learn, hard to master".

i wish people woukd stop comparing modern gaming to classic gaming, If they do, they'll enjoy the game a lot less. Both classic and modern gamng are excellent, and I can't really decide between them.

If we're using the word "classic" to mean "retro," then I don't draw a fundamental distinction. They're all games, and I enjoy different games from every era.

The thing about retro/classic games is that are more than the sum of their parts.  Simple concept, basic graphics, yet they keep you coming back time and time again.

Modern games are just the opposite.  Huge worlds, realistic graphics, and surround sound, but it very often doesn't add up to much.  When you're done you cringe at the thought of replaying it.

I'm generalizing, but I think you get the point.

I'm not really sure why everyone here seems to think that modern games have little to no replay value. Modern games have much more replay value than older games.

I couldn't agree more. I was just trying to play Red Dead Redemption and just cannot bring myself to replay it. I remember when I first played it I thought I would NEVER get tired of it but 40 hours and one playthrough was all I could stomach. The game looks like a million bucks and is a A+ title all the way but I just can't see myself playing this one 10-15 years from now. It's just too hard to get back into because it's so complicated and in depth to a lazy gamer like me.

Meanwhile, I still play classics like Contra and Mega Man 2 several times a year and never get tired of them. I like modern games but they simply don't have the magic these NES titles have.

Critic hit it on the head.

Although I wouldn't plop all modern games in that description. Mainly it's just the AAA big money ones that fit the bill.

There are a lot of new games that aren't "modern" though. I enjoy a AAA "modern" title every now and again but yeah . . . I cringe at the thought of replaying one.
