Re: 2019/4/17: Atari XEGS: River Raid, Operation Blood: Light Gun Version

Bought River Raid for my XEGS today. Didn't even know it was available on this system until seeing your review. Looking forward to it. Thanks for the tip!

Re: Are there any ways of limiting disc rott?

Good point about the floppies Retro! I remember I was buying 5 1/4 floppies in a Babbages (if I recall) in the early 80s and asked the guy working there how long they would hold data for. He said about five years. Of course he was just pulling that number out of his ass. How would he know? Needless...

Re: Are there any ways of limiting disc rott?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing as VGC, that it is a not much real concern. I haven't ever seen disc rot - on professional discs or ones that I've burned. Unless you store a disc in unreasonable conditions (like in direct sunlight, or in very high temperatures) for very long periods, I don't fee...

Re: 2019/4/20: Nintendo Switch: Hollow Knight

My one concern about Axiom Verge is the comparisons to Metroid. I love Metroidvania games, but I prefer games that veer toward the Castlevania side of the equation. For example- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is in my personal top 10 all-time, whereas Super Metroid wouldn't even crack my top 10 ...

Re: 2019/4/20: Nintendo Switch: Hollow Knight

Of the people who have played Axiom Verge and Hollow Knight, is it now safe to say that most prefer Hollow Knight? I have both downloaded to my PS4, but I haven't started either.

Re: SNK 40th Anniversary Collection (Switch)

Just looked it up, and looks like an interesting collection. When I saw the name, I figured it was just another Neo Geo rehash. But it looks like all the games are from the pre-Neo Geo era. Good stuff. 14 games are included, but if you download the patch there's 9 more. You should've gotten the just...

Re: 2019/4/17: Atari XEGS: River Raid, Operation Blood: Light Gun Version

I agree with you about River Raid being timeless. I did not play the game growing up - played it for the first time during the 2000's - and I still love it. Is it safe to say that this version is best? I think I own the 2600 and 5200 versions - is it worth the $10-$20 to get this one too?

Re: What do you like/dislike about the site?

I only wish that we could post bigger pictures on here, since reducing the file size can be a royal pain, but I'd imagine that would make it very hard keeping this forum free. That's actually a pretty good point, which I agree with. If that is a limitation imposed by the forum host, then it's total...

Re: All-Digital Xbox One worth it?

Yeah, doesn't seem to make much sense. I imagine it's targeted at kids/parents and casual gamers, who will just see the cheaper price tag and choose that version, without any real thought put into their choice. While times have changed in the past 10 years, let's not forget the PSP Go. That was Sony...

Re: 2019/4/14: NES: Final Fantasy (Guest Review), Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom

Yes, but that's not what Final Fantasy is directly drawing on, which is how the review paints it. It's inspired by a game that was inspired by games that were inspired by tabletop games; to say that it was "perhaps inspired by the fantasy tabletop games of its time" is a misleading jump. ...
