Re: 2019/4/17: Atari XEGS: River Raid, Operation Blood: Light Gun Version

I agree with you about River Raid being timeless. I did not play the game growing up - played it for the first time during the 2000's - and I still love it. Is it safe to say that this version is best? I think I own the 2600 and 5200 versions - is it worth the $10-$20 to get this one too?

Re: What do you like/dislike about the site?

I only wish that we could post bigger pictures on here, since reducing the file size can be a royal pain, but I'd imagine that would make it very hard keeping this forum free. That's actually a pretty good point, which I agree with. If that is a limitation imposed by the forum host, then it's total...

Re: All-Digital Xbox One worth it?

Yeah, doesn't seem to make much sense. I imagine it's targeted at kids/parents and casual gamers, who will just see the cheaper price tag and choose that version, without any real thought put into their choice. While times have changed in the past 10 years, let's not forget the PSP Go. That was Sony...

Re: 2019/4/14: NES: Final Fantasy (Guest Review), Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom

Yes, but that's not what Final Fantasy is directly drawing on, which is how the review paints it. It's inspired by a game that was inspired by games that were inspired by tabletop games; to say that it was "perhaps inspired by the fantasy tabletop games of its time" is a misleading jump. ...

Re: 2019/4/14: NES: Final Fantasy (Guest Review), Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom

Nice to see Final Fantasy reviewed on the site -- thanks ptdebate. I actually played this very recently. I only played like 30 minutes or so, but I was impressed with it. I bought the NES cartridge a few years ago, and popped it in for the first time just a few weeks ago. However, there was a game s...

Re: 1984 in video games?

1984 was a chance for computers to shine, and there were some good options in that regard. But still, I think it's the weakest year from 1980 to present.

Re: New Golf Games?

I second snakeboy. Golf Story isn’t a traditional golf game, but it is one of the highest rated games on the Switch. In fact, it’s the only Switch game I own! I don’t even own a Switch and I already bought that game because it looked interesting and I think that physical copies were only given a lim...

Re: 1984 in video games?

I think you're 100% correct - 1984 was a weird year in gaming. In fact, starting from the release of the Atari 2600 to present day, I would say that 1984 was the worst year in the history of video games. Admittedly, I don't base that on personal knowledge. However, there is an amazing series called ...

Re: 2019/4/11: Playstation: Midnight Run (Japan), Cardinal Syn

Well there's a timely review if I've ever seen one. Of all the obscure games in the world, you post a Cardinal Syn review just as it's been sitting on my TV stand the past week, with plans for me to play it. But first, flash back 20 years to Spring 1999... I just got a PS1 for Christmas '98. I only ...

Re: April Fools Review Compilation

Enjoyed reading the background, especially about how the tradition started. I think Strip Poker II will always be my favorite, because it had so many good lines and I fell for it 100%. I remember thinking "ok, that was a hilarious read, but there's absolutely no details about the gameplay in th...
