Re: 2018/9/14: Playstation 4: Madden NFL 19, Tempest 4000

Great review on Madden. I buy a new Madden once every 5 years or so. I got last year's version, so I'm on the sideline for this one. But I still like reading your take on it. A couple good laughs -- the pick-offs was a great line; and the "30 years" sarcasm at the end. Sounds like there's ...

Re: Mortal Kombat Monday 1993

@RetroStrife - I'm assuming you went to the RetroWorld Expo in CT this past weekend. I was there and saw all the Mortal Kombat actors too. We really need to meet up at this thing one year! For sure. I'm there every year, both days. I'm a big fan of that particular convention and have been going sin...

Re: Tecmo Super Bowl (SNES)

Now we're talking. Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES might just be my favorite game of all-time, so I'm a big fan of the series. I've spent a lot of time with it since first getting it in the early 90s. Today the TSB fanbase is still going strong with tournaments around the country, online leagues, and y...

Re: Back to School games?

As a more outside-the-box choice, how about Oregon Trail? It has nothing to do with school, but playing it results in instant flashbacks to grammar school days in the computer lab. Sorry for a third post, but just a follow up about Oregon Trail.. Generally I think of it as a computer game; especial...

Re: Mortal Kombat Monday 1993

That was definitely an interesting read, and somehow I never heard of the Mortal Monday marketing campaign as a kid. Although it's on multiple systems, I've always considered Mortal Kombat to be a Genesis series. It fit better with the edgier vibe of the Genesis - and I think it plays better on the ...

Re: Back to School games?

Two others popping in my head.. I think River City Ransom (NES) had a story based on high schoolers. And then Super Dodge Ball for NES. While I think Super Dodge Ball involves some random international competition, you still can't play dodgeball without thinking back to school days.

Re: Back to School games?

The first one that popped in my head was the Persona series (as ptdebate noted), although I've never played any games in the series. The second one that popped in my head: Adventures of Willy Beamish for Sega CD. I have it lying around, but never played it.. but I recall the details of it from your ...

Re: Super Mario World vs Donkey Kong Country

I notice a lot of love for DKC 2 going on here. I've never played it, but now I'm intrigued, despite not being that big a fan of DKC 1. Is DKC 2 that much better than DKC 1? I notice the VGC deemed them about equal, giving a B+ to both. I do own DKC 2 and 3, so time is the only thing holding me back...

Re: Donkey Kong 64 (N64)

I beg to differ on the graphics. I agree that it has a leg up on all of the previous N64 titles, but to me the game that used the Expansion Pak to the fullest was Perfect Dark. Sure the frame rate is a mess, but on high res mode that game goes beyond other N64 games. It's doesn't quite match up to ...

Re: Donkey Kong 64 (N64)

I googled DK64, and it reminded me of a few things... First, the DK Rap when you turn on the game is great. Second, no doubt, DK64 had easily the best graphics ever seen on the N64 at that time -- a large part of that was because it was the first N64 game to require the Expansion Pak. (Still, the Dr...
