Re: Reconsidering Neo Geo CD reviews

You have always based your reviews subjectively on how "fun" a game is for you and your friends to play. Extended loading times would definitely impact that fun leading to lower scores so I think it's fair to mention and factor the loading times into the games. I am not sure I would split ...

A Clear Downside to Streaming Consoles

As an owner of a NVidia Shield I've been playing around with their streaming GeForce Now gaming service. A new downside just emerged for me to the whole streaming console discussion. Full disclosure - I am much more of a game collector than I am a game player so I don't spend a lot of time playing m...

Re: Atari Flashback X

I came so close to buying myself a Retron '77 for Christmas this past year - it was in my online shopping cart and everything. At the last moment, I held off because I wasn't sure how much I was really going to use it. I am more than likely going to pick one up eventually as it seems like a pretty c...

Re: Anybody excited for VR?

The Quest however is really impressive in how immersive it is because you have complete freedom of movement (within boundaries you define). Some of the games I have tried are simply amazing and I can easily see this kind of technology becoming more popular. To paraphrase EA, you really do feel in t...

Re: Anybody excited for VR?

For Christmas this year, I got my two younger kids the Oculus Go and my oldest got the Oculus Quest. I own a Samsung Gear VR which is kind of like the Go so I was pretty familiar with it. There are some good games on the Go but it's limited primarily to experiences (e.g. roller coasters, rail shoote...

Re: Console Future Values

I've recently noticed an uptick in prices for TG-16 games and systems. Even the crappy/common games are selling in the $30-50 range now which is kind of crazy. Rare games like Darkwing Duck (why oh why didn't I buy you when I had you in my hand at Toys R Us for $20 in the early 90's???) are fetching...

Re: What was the challenge you just couldn't beat, no matter how hard you tried?

As for good accomplishments, I was good at a lot of the Digital Pictures FMV games on the Sega CD (e.g. perfect score in Night Trap, beat Sewer Shark, beat Double Switch, beat Ground Zero Texas, etc...). My wife and I got a perfect score/the best ending in Night Trap too (32X version). Pretty satis...

Re: What was the challenge you just couldn't beat, no matter how hard you tried?

Super Mario Bros world 8 (seriously). Growing up, my brother and I would take turns where I would play levels 1-7 and he would play 8 and beat the game. This has led to a scenario where I can practically do a perfect run from 1-1 to 7-4 (with or without warps) but once I get to 8-1, it all goes out ...

Re: Classic CD-ROM games compatible with Audio Players

A lot of Sega CD games include the in-game audio as separate tracks. Turbo CD/Duo games did this as well. Most "modern" (yeah I know) CD players will skip the data track (track 1 typically) and just start at track 2. Older players will play track 1 but it's just some digital noise. Won't d...

Re: Sega Genesis Mini review

Good review. I was debating picking up the officially licensed Genesis mini but after doing some research, I decided to go with the last Atgames (hold your eye-rolls) Sega Genesis Flashback HD console which was produced in 2018. This one not only looks the part (much better than the prior 2017 model...
