Re: Golden Axe trilogy (Retrospective)

Mega Man II Game Boy (horrible music, but mindless fun) At least it wasn't made by people who clearly never played a MM game before (looking at the DOS MM games) but a lot about it feels off. Actually, my biggest pet peeve is the "rhythm" of shooting enemies, their invincibility frames an...

Re: Golden Axe trilogy (Retrospective)

Well PixelatedGenocide, to each their own, you can say what you like about it, but let's just wait until the Critic gets his hands on this game, and we'll see what he says about it. You might be surprised. I will admit there are a few weaknesses, but that don't matter to me, I love it for what it i...

Re: 2020/7/7: Atari 2600: Donald Duck's Speedboat, Dark Chambers

Ummmm Gauntlet AND Dark Chambers were based on the game DANDY. The Atari 2600 was THOUGHT to not handle a game like Gauntlet so Dark Chambers was created as a similar game. https://strategywiki.org/wiki/Dandy However, someone took up the challenge of hacking Dark Chambers into Gauntlet and pulled i...

Re: Golden Axe trilogy (Retrospective)

I feel disgusted looking at that article. I guess the nostalgia of the other games clouded their judgement. I'm not amused. It's mid-90s EGM; some of the time they were dead-on for their enthusiasm (Dracula X for the PC Engine is an interesting article - see issue #55), and then there were their re...

Re: Golden Axe trilogy (Retrospective)

Was Golden Axe III a Japanese only release? I don't recall that one. Yes it was, and I was always amused how EGM and other game mags of the day used to warn DO NOT BUY, NOT WORTH IT every time they mentioned it... You do have a specific EGM magazine in mind? I have them all and don't recall reading...

Re: Movie Special Effects

So I've been watching a lot of old "blockbuster" movie series over the last few weeks, and it's become very clear to me that practical effects age MUCH better than computer effects. AMEN! This is one of the reason that I was glad when it was announced that JJ Abrams was pushing for more p...
