Re: What-if scenario for Atari 2600 Pac-Man

Atari was being run by suits that saw money, according to the programmers. In addition, as with the ET game, they gave the programmer an unrealistically short development time (weeks instead of months) to crank the game out. Also, as far as Atari was concerned early on Pacman was a success, it was o...

Re: A quality shmup coming to Switch this fall!

The Nintendo Switch is the Sega Saturn spiritual successor https://www.themarysue.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/facepalm-deja-q.jpg Why Face Palm? Is it because Switch being compared to Sega Saturn is not the best? I know I should have used something else it only because of the dither transparency...

Re: What-if scenario for Atari 2600 Pac-Man

Arcade games being “superior” to their console counterparts is a cool element to video game history. Remember the fun of seeing how “close” a console game came to the real/arcade version? If they had perfected it right out of the gate, all that fun would have been lost. Video games were slightly mo...

Re: What-if scenario for Atari 2600 Pac-Man

This topic fascinates me, because I have to go to another medium to relate to it. I'm 40, and didn't spend more than 20 hours total in an arcade growing up. The only Pac Man I knew was the 2600 version, and to me it was a blast. It wasn't until I started *really* collecting video games about 7 or 8...

Re: Aladdin (Genesis)

This is to date my favorite of all the Aladdin games made, and one that I enjoy breaking out to play every so often and not regretting it. Great graphics and animation, great in-joke gags, great music, and just fun all around. Also, this was before Disney started asking developers to make the games ...

Re: What-if scenario for Atari 2600 Pac-Man

If there had not been an Arcade Pac-Man, there would be Game X, which would have an Atari 2600 version of Game X. Setting aside Atari gobbling up big licenses and not utilizing them correctly (ET, Last Starfighter, etc.), it was inevitable that a maze game like Pac-Man would occur, as there were alr...

Re: Will you miss Game Stop

I was literally just about to post about that. The tactic of opening sealed games, taking the disc out, and putting the empty box on the shelf is mind-boggling. It could be an anti-theft thing, if they left a brand new, sealed game out in the open where a person could steal it, that's not good. It ...

Re: Will you miss Game Stop

Having recently purchased a PS Vita again, I have been buying up games of late for it, as many are on the cheap. However, several were so high that I figured, heck, I'll look at GameStop's site to see if they still sell Vita. Shockingly, a store not far from my work had a dozen really good games at ...

VideoGameCritic wrote:Not so sure about that. Maybe the indie/phone scene had been flogging that style, but as a widely released console title it seemed refreshing at the time.

The fact that Shovel Knight was a very well made game and not a rush or cash-in product also helped. ;)
