Re: Are Fishing Games Gambling

That's definitely gambling. I'm not a big fan of gambling because it preys on the addictive vulnerabilities of the mind, and it basically sucks money out of people's products. Poor people are often the target audience. This goes for state lotteries too. I agree that the 'skill based slots' are gamb...

Re: 2018/12/5: Colecovision: Time Pilot, Q*bert's Qubes

The Time Pilot review gives a good sense of it being fun, but the fun being limited. A solid enough game you probably would not have kicked yourself for buying back then. I've never played Q*berts Cubes - but its odd that you have the Colecovision version as an F and the Atari version a C (which has...

skillbasedslotmachine.JPG Here is another concept I'm learning about - "Skill-Based Slot Machines". Traditional slot machines weren't bringing in younger players, so these evolved. You play it like slots, but then there is an option to play the bonus run either on luck (like a slot machin...

Re: Sony Playstation Classic, $99 US, 12/3

One trend I find alarming is how these "classic" consoles are becoming more and more expensive. I'm wondering how long it will be before we get a full-featured model packed with games for the same price as a modern console? I also really dislike how they are 1) almost certainly emulator, ...

Re: New thumbs up/down feature?

Many of my searches end up with "The following words in your search query were ignored because there were too common words" Which doesn't even sound grammatically correct. Can you restrict/preset the search to just "Review Feedback" instead of defaulting to searching through all ...

Are Fishing Games Gambling

At various points across the US, arcade multiplayer cocktail table like fishing 'skill' games are popping up. Feed in money to get ammunition, and while music plays, you shoot bullets from a turret at fish (not usually how I fish...) So far, they are being considered legal. Here is an article from C...

Re: Super Castlevania IV Retrospective

Genesis can't do Mode 7 actually, rotation and scaling on the console is done frame by frame, or with the software help. On SNES Mode 7 is real, it's inherent on the hardware, it can rotate 360º and zoom in and out background, it can do a wide range of ratation/sacling effects on screen like that D...

Re: 2018/11/28: Commodore 64: The Dam Busters

An unopened shrinkwrapped copy sacrificed its pristine grade for this review! Accolade made Hardball! I was never a big baseball fan, but Hardball is light years beyond any baseball game I ever played (we won't dive too deeply in comparing Hardball! to Odyssey 2 Baseball! except that they each have ...

Re: Super Castlevania IV Retrospective

Mode 7 is a display mode of the SNES's graphics chip, so Bloodlines doesn't actually put it to much use It’s a testament to Nintendo’s marketing that any scaling and rotation effects are related to as Mode 7. Its a better testament to Sega's that anything could be called "Blast Processing!"
