Re: Sears files for bankruptcy

Like Radio Shack, Sears just seems like an icon of decades past. Sears, tied to indoor malls, was just no longer convenient or a destination worth traveling to. Toys R Us has decided to not auction off their intellectual property, a last hope at a comeback - although like the Atari brand someone wou...

Sears files for bankruptcy

Sears, which was part of bringing video games into the homes from the beginning, has filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Its possible to reorganize, but its doubtful.

Re: When aging electronics fail

Isn't a little early to panic? After all, we're perfectly okay with an NES that flickers on and off just years after purchase, and Saturns that don't save, and PS1s that need to be set on their side. Red ring of death? It's just the first step in their cycle of rebirth. But then a trusted childhood...

Re: C64 mini

I'm intrigued. I found a games list here: https://thec64.com/games/ Has anybody tried this? Would it be faithful enough to allow me to review C64 games? Yeah I know I had a C64 Critic but his system has been in disrepair. I noticed it says "no AC adapter" on the front. What does that mean...

Re: C64 mini

Floppy disks are FAST! It was those old tape-loading games that always killed me! 10 minutes and counting! When people complained about the load times of the PlayStation or Sega CD, I always thought that was warp speed compared to the old cassette loaders. I think I only lasted about 3/4ths of a ye...

Re: Games so bad you have to shut it off

I love that Helicopter Rescue! (jeez, pipe down) has "sync-sound action". I normally don't expect sound effects to synchronize with the action, so it's cool to see a game with that feature. *Full* Sync-sound action, with 'digital' scoring! My, no expense spared. By 'one or more play...

Re: When aging electronics fail

Only ROM cartridge based system I’ve had issue with is the Game Gear notorious for bad capacitors. The Atari ST computer is a different story lots of maintenance required. I’ve now given up with disk drives for and use a floppy Emulator with SD card - life is so much easier. I have also gone to SD ...

When aging electronics fail

Having a streak of issues on older electronics, and I'm wondering if I am hitting age related failures - the right hand side of the 'bathtub' curve of failure rates. I acquired several handheld computerized games, about as old as an Atari 2600 would be (1977-1980 time frame). They would power on, bu...

Re: Games so bad you have to shut it off

That is a truly awful ZX Spectrum experience It makes me feel better (a little better) about my Odyssey 2 experience ootw.JPG As a kid, getting a new game was very infrequent. There were no rentals, and no trade-ins. This cartridge was one of my rare purchases, and its awful. Twice the awful with tw...
