If I buy a sports game it’s only usually one per generation now, they don’t alter enough year by year.

Castlevania - Symphony of the Night (PSP/Vita)

Didn’t grab me initially but the more I played the more addicting it became. Really, really enjoyed and now understand why it gets all the praise.

Currently replaying with Richter.

Altered Beast (2005) - PS2

Well I’m pleasantly surprised with this, it’s nowhere near as bad as it’s reputation suggests. Graphics are decent although they lack colour. The beast upgrading is well implemented. Although a beat ‘em up there are Metroid style sections where you can revisit old stages to open up previously inacce...

Re: Super Castlevania IV Retrospective

Oh yeah I know it’s a real thing it’s just that he used it without actually knowing what it is. The Atari ST(e) came with a blitter I believe but not many software companies made use of it because the bulk of the ST’s out there were the ST(fm) models. the ST can barely scroll a background without co...

Re: Super Castlevania IV Retrospective

Its a better testament to Sega's that anything could be called "Blast Processing!" Blast processing is the greatest marketing in the history of video games. Sega HQ “This new Nintendo console is coming out soon, it has more colours, a sample based soundchip and custom graphics chips - wha...

It’s a testament to Nintendo’s marketing that any scaling and rotation effects are related to as Mode 7.

Re: 2013/8/2: Jaguar: Fever Pitch Soccer, Kobayashi Maru (CD), Sensible Soccer

Yes, I am an European gamer and, in my opinion, Sensible Soccer is A or A+, below this is a joke... A detail about the review, the game has more than 150 teams, not 64, greetings. It was released as Championship Soccer ‘94 on the Mega CD in the US. If that’s an option for you ? https://segaretro.or...

That’s a great post and I wholeheartedly concur. I remember moving to Japanese consoles at the time I couldn’t put my finger in why they were better but in a nutshell they were just more gamer friendly.

Re: PS2-Activision Anthology

If you haven't already, try changing the left difficulty switch. If I don't have it all backwards in my mind, I believe the game defaults to not being able to hit the ball at sharp angles, making it tougher to score on an opponent. Just don't change the right difficulty switch, since then the AI pl...

Re: Xbox without a disk drive?

Yeah I’m going to agree with VicViper on this I remember lots of buggy games. Robocop on the C64 one of the levels just flat out didn’t work because the developers didn’t expect you to get there. The originally Jet Set Willy couldn’t be beat due to a glitch. They released a ‘poke’ to fix it (oldie t...
