Re: 2019/2/17: 3DO: Crime Patrol

Awesome, a 3DO review, and it's a game I know pretty well! Actually I've played the Sega CD version a lot more, which has the advantage of unlimited continues but video quality poor enough to cause real problems with the gameplay. Then again, when I beat the game, I used the severe compres...

Re: 2019/1/16: Atari 7800: Desert Falcon, Basketbrawl

Great to see more 7800 reviews (only 5 unreviewed games left!). I haven't played Basketbrawl but I'm pleasantly surprised that it's a reasonably credible game.

Re: Games to Play When You're Sick?

RPGs and strategy games (Koei, etc.) are my medicine of choice when I'm sick, but I know they're not generally up the Critic's alley. Still, a nice mediocre, mindless RPG can be the perfect thing, especially if you can watch TV at the same time. It won't work if you're feeling absolutely flattened, ...

Re: 2019/1/13: Playstation: Burning Road, Steel Harbinger

Ha, brutal review of Steel Harbinger! I actually enjoyed the game for what it was -- that being, as you say, trashy mid-1990s cheese à la Robotron. But for exactly that reason, I can't really argue with the failing grade. Hate to be the bearer of bad typographic news, but there's a string of small e...

Re: 2019/1/6: Atari 2600: Missile Command, Walker (Europe)

Walker!! What a bizarre mess of a game it is. BTW the colors are wackier than intended, because PAL Ataris used a different color chip and encoding scheme. Here's what the prairie is supposed to look like, for example: http://i66.tinypic.com/et7k9y.png Unfortunately it doesn't look like the person w...

Re: Alien's Return (Atari 2600)

Sweet! I love seeing you review odd stuff for Atari 2600, especially the weird world of PAL exclusives. :) Try "Parachute" sometime; there's a NTSC conversion by Thomas Jentzsch available on AtariAge (for that and every PAL game).

Re: 2018/12/29: Dreamcast: Grinch, The

I completely agree with your decision to re-review this one. You sometimes pan games I love (Gain Ground!!), but that's fine; this, however, was one of the few occasions where you praised a game and I was mystified as to why. OTOH the main thing I don't like about the game is that it's just not clea...

Re: Bad game names

I actually remember Wardner from the Arcade, ties with Shinobi as the easiest non-coin muncher ever, beat it without a loss of life. I believe that that it was translated to the Genny although I never sought it out. Yeah, I played it on the Genesis. I've never played the arcade version, though I'm ...

Re: PGA Tour Golf III (Sega Genesis)

I agree that golf on the Genesis was probably the apex of the sport (not unlike hockey). I'd love to see more golf games on the Genesis get reviewed, as I suspect there are a few more gems to be found in there. I know someone who played through the Japanese-exclusive game Waialae no Kiseki recently...

Re: Bad game names

It's always seemed straightforward to me: "Gaia" like the Greek goddess of the Earth, plus "res" pronounced either like the first part of "rest" or (more naturally) the first syllable of "resident". Maybe they were trying for a "Gaia" + "Ares&qu...
