Re: 2019/3/23: Sega CD: Who Shot Johnny Rock?, Ultraverse Prime

Here are some fun new Sega CD reviews for your enjoyment. This system is becoming my go-to because the games are so weird! Niiiiice. (On both counts.) I'm glad you enjoyed Ultraverse Prime! Haven't played Who Shot Johnny Rock yet myself but your description makes it sound like it's everything I fea...

Fire Truck!! That game is magnificent -- one of my favorite arcade games to play, especially with two people. Very simple, but very fun.

Re: 2019/3/2: Genesis: Valis, Exo Squad

I didn't think Exo-Squad was bad at all, though I agree the pseudo-3D shmup stages are poor. I enjoyed the side-scrolling segments quite a bit, though I think that depends on how much patience you have for unusual control schemes. Personally, once I got used to the controls, I thought they worked qu...

Re: 2019/2/22: Sega CD: Crime Patrol, Iron Helix

You gave bad grades to Rebel Assault (Sega CD), Myst (Jaguar CD) and Iron Helix (Sega CD). I played those games on a Macintosh CD-ROM back in the days. I totally understand the bad grades - those games aged pretty badly. But you know what? I was really impressed with those games back in the days (I...

Re: 2019/2/22: Sega CD: Crime Patrol, Iron Helix

I love this kind of feedback goldenband! Constructive criticism that adds a lot more insight into the games. No two people see a game the same way. Thanks. Awww, thank you for the kind words! Full disclosure, I did write the site review for Iron Helix on Sega-16, so I may be a bit biased (or at lea...

Re: 2019/2/22: Sega CD: Crime Patrol, Iron Helix

Aww, I liked Iron Helix! But I'm absolutely not surprised that you didn't. You have to enjoy the whole process of mapping out each location and gradually figuring out how the game works, and I've been reading your reviews long enough to know that's not your style. :) Still, my wife and I reall...

Re: Japanese games on my American PS1?

I've actually had a fair bit of fun playing European exclusives on my debug PS1, like Buttsubushi (a hybrid between a puzzle game and a Bomberman-ish title) and CT Special Forces (Metal Slug clone). However, you'll probably need to use a boot disc like ImportPlayer or ImportPlayer Light to force NTS...

Re: 2019/2/17: 3DO: Crime Patrol

Awesome, a 3DO review, and it's a game I know pretty well! Actually I've played the Sega CD version a lot more, which has the advantage of unlimited continues but video quality poor enough to cause real problems with the gameplay. Then again, when I beat the game, I used the severe compres...

Great to see more 7800 reviews (only 5 unreviewed games left!). I haven't played Basketbrawl but I'm pleasantly surprised that it's a reasonably credible game.

Re: Games to Play When You're Sick?

RPGs and strategy games (Koei, etc.) are my medicine of choice when I'm sick, but I know they're not generally up the Critic's alley. Still, a nice mediocre, mindless RPG can be the perfect thing, especially if you can watch TV at the same time. It won't work if you're feeling absolutely flattened, ...
