Re: 2019/10/9: Playstation: Lucky Luke, Looney Tunes Racing

The SNES Lucky Luke got a positive reception on Gamefaqs though. https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/snes/924623-lucky-luke Interesting -- maybe I just happened to run across a review from someone who didn't like it? I'm always looking for an excuse to play some CD-i, so I might give this one a shot soon...

Re: 2019/10/9: Playstation: Lucky Luke, Looney Tunes Racing

Lucky Luke is a popular comic and cartoon series in Europe, but I had never heard of it in the U.S. until I came across the CD-i game a few years ago. (I think the CD-i game was a European exclusive though.) But, interesting to see that there was a PS1 game in the U.S. too. Looking at Wikipedia, it...

Re: 2019/10/9: Playstation: Lucky Luke, Looney Tunes Racing

Fascinating that a Lucky Luke game came out in North America -- I had no idea, as most of them are European exclusives! There's an interesting Lucky Luke game for CD-i that looks a lot more attractive than those PlayStation screenshots, though its playability is borderline at best. Really nice-looki...

Re: 2019/10/6: Atari 2600: Warlords, Medieval Mayhem

I assume Retro STrife was referring to Warlords ports from the 1980s. In truth I think the consoles that would be the most logical fit were the Astrocade and 5200, though we could have seen computer ports as well. But the 4-player paddle action was pretty much mandatory, and only a handful of platfo...

Re: Entombed for the Atari 2600 mystery

I saw that Entombed link! A good read to be sure.

The game itself is flawed but very interesting. The unfinished homebrew Man Goes Down offers somewhat similar gameplay (platform-based instead of tunnel-based) but with a slicker presentation and without the control issues.

Re: 2019/10/6: Atari 2600: Warlords, Medieval Mayhem

There's not any other version of Warlords besides the 2600, is there? If not, that's amazing to me considering how much arcade games were ported around to home consoles all throughout the '80s. There's a great-looking homebrew version for the Astrocade, War, which got reviewed by the Critic a while...

Re: Games the VGC Didn't Review (Yet), for Systems Nearing Completion

My intent with this thread is to track systems that are reasonably close to completion -- in some cases, i.e. the 32X, with only one game in the library left to review! Obviously there are tons of worthy NES, SNES, Genesis, PlayStation, etc. games that the Critic hasn't reviewed yet, but that's a di...

Re: 2019/9/28: Bally Astrocade: Artillery Duel, Pseudo-ku 2008

The other thing that helps, for me, is to set goals. I've never been that keen on solo gaming for high score, but participating in high score contests can be fun. Old consoles sometimes excel at multiplayer gaming, too. Those 4-player paddle games on Atari 2600 can be really fun and have a low barri...

Re: Mega drive flicker means busted cartridge?

The Genesis is also well-known for having a slightly out-of-spec video signal that causes problems with certain TVs, capture cards, etc. So, that could be a factor too -- not enough to cause problems on its own with a particular setup, maybe, but when combined with a slightly out-of-spec behavior fr...

Stay tuned!

Nice! And -- since you have a Harmony cart -- maybe you might consider pairing it off with the upgraded homebrew version, Incoming? The programmer did a really nice job with that one.
