Re: World Tour Tennis (PS4)

While trying out a bunch of tennis games from over the last 30 or so years it reconfirmed my thought that it’s hard to make a good tennis game and the failure rate is through the roof. That’s why it’s been so refreshing playing Neo Tennis and Tennis for Gameboy

Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (Gameboy)

I’ll prefsce this by saying that it is above average and I’ve been playing it. But there’s way too much forced jumping into the air. The helicopter power up is such a rip off of the flying leaf from SMB 3. There’s more water levels than any Super Mario game I’ve ever played. This whole constantly be...

Re: 2019/5/30: Game Boy: Super Mario Land, Duck Tales

I have no doubt 6 Golden Coins is great. It's kind of a different subgenre. I just read that the makers of 6 Golden Coins wanted to do something way different than SML 1 and wanted it to be like Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. I'm sure it's great like those games, but there's a ton of exp...

Tennis (Game Boy)

And here's my 2nd and last tennis post. This game is really fun. The 4 skill levels really ramp up and it's taken me nearly a week of playing a lot to finally soundly beat level 4. This one is great.

Re: 2019/5/30: Game Boy: Super Mario Land, Duck Tales

I've been playing the first 2 and Super Mario Land is really fun. Maybe not the best game but perfect for the Game Boy, which I always thought of as being simple gaming. 6 Golden Coins however, I'm having a hard time getting motivated for. There's all sorts of branching paths and stuff that makes th...

Pocket Tennis Color (Neo Pocket Color)

I've been playing this (on an emulator). I'd always wondered if SNK would have made a tennis game how it would've been. Well, I didn't know about this game. This is a lot of fun, and the strategy is right on. It was made in 1999 back when you could actually serve and volley and it's awesome pushing ...

Re: Favorite Grunge Albums

I couldn't agree more with a lot of the lists here. One thing I think about is this "dean of rock critics" Robert Christgau's reviews. He's a great reviewer but he neglects bands of significance and is partial to bands from New York where he's from. This is the guy that, and I'm sorry for ...

Re: Can't beat classic hockey

On top of those old games being good, there was also the players (maybe the golden age of hockey perhaps). There was Gretzky, Robitaille, Lemioux, Jagr, Fedorov, Yzerman, Messier, Sweeney, Roenick, Belfour, Roy. And way more fighting than there is now. Back then most teams had an enforcer who'd get ...

Re: AVGN: Mortal Kombat reviews

In the summer of '94 I played a ton of Mortal Kombat 2, and it was probably my favorite arcade game ever besides the Neo Geo. The game was amazing. It made me really want to play MK1 but I never got to it. MK3 came out really soon, and I loved that in the arcades too, although the SNES port was horr...
