Re: Celeste (2018) - just another overrated indie game

As someone who absolutely loved Celeste, I'll agree to disagree, but I will say this part does confuse me: Celeste's level design is absolutely genius. This is the most expertly crafted 2D platformer I have ever experienced. Celeste trumps anything Nintendo or any other developer has done in 2D, and...

Re: Very hard games that were intended for young children

Not a retail title, but a Winnie the Pooh Flash game made the rounds on the Internet some years ago for its difficulty being hilariously inappropriate for children:

Re: Anyone else totally underwhelmed by Cuphead?

The reason I loved Cuphead is the opposite as what this post says, in that I think it would still be an excellent game even without the attention-grabbing art style. It's certainly challenging, but I honestly think the difficulty is overblown (at least on Normal), and the only boss I found to be gen...

Re: 2019/5/30: Game Boy: Super Mario Land, Duck Tales

Yeah, the A+ for Super Mario Land seems a tad overblown. It's a perfectly competent game, but just about every subsequent portable Mario platformer blows it out of the water. I recommend the sequel Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins as well as the main four Wario Land games (the first of which is co...

Upcoming handheld system 'Playdate'

The developers of the successful indie game Firewatch have announced a portable system that has a crank as part of the controls: https://www.engadget.com/2019/05/23/the-morning-after-playdate/ A weird idea for sure, but at least looks more interesting than most modern gaming platforms not made by th...

Re: Sonic Live Action Movie trailer.

Incredibly, the director has announced that they'll work on changing Sonic's design in the movie after all the negative feedback:

Re: 2019/4/20: Nintendo Switch: Hollow Knight

I have this downloaded on my Switch, but the dozens of other quality indies have distracted me from it. That said, I'll definitely revisit it thanks to this review. Speaking of quality indies that are now on the Switch, I think it's safe to say Cuphead would also get a ton of praise if the VGC ever ...

Ape Out (Switch)

Here's a game that will sadly probably go overlooked by the general public, but may very well be the best indie game of this year so far. The first thing that immediately stands out about Ape Out is its graphical style, which arguably does a better job of conveying its surprisingly brutal tone than ...

Re: PS Vita is mostly no more.

I honestly really liked the Vita's selection of indies on the go, which makes it feel very much like a proto-Switch in retrospect. For my money, there's no better way to play Spelunky, which is the very definition of a modern classic.

Resident Evil 2 (PS4)

Speaking as someone who just can't bring myself to genuinely enjoy the original PS1 Resident Evil games, I absolutely loved my time with this remake. As you most likely know by now, this is not a mere remaster of a 20-year-old game but rather a dramatic overhaul that (to my knowledge) still retains ...
