Re: Which games have the best screenshots?

Genesis Sword of Sodan is another "bait and switch" game where the graphics on the back of the box look amazing, but not so impressive in action.

Re: Which games have the best screenshots?

Back in the day before the internet, that was often how many gamers made their purchasing decisions. Which ones tempted you? Which ones still tempt you? NES Ninja Gaiden. I remember seeing the back of the box at the video rental store. It has images of cut scenes and the boss fight with the two dog...

Re: Red Dead Redemption II install process from hell

One big advantage of console gaming was that it was "pick up and play" compared to PC gaming. Much less hassle. Now that is no longer true. A console is just a less expensive PC that you hook up to your TV. All of that installing, updates and DRM crap is there. No thanks.

Re: Most Innovative Games?

The Portal games are unlike anything else, even if they are technically in the Half-Life universe. I 100% second this. The cake is a lie. "Apple. No, you jumped again..." Fantastic dialogue and terrific gameplay. I also want to 2nd C64 Critics comments on Wizardry. It spawned an absolutel...

Re: Most Innovative Games?

Super Mario Brothers- The game that put platformers on the map. Legend of Zelda- I believe this was the first battery saved game. Double Dragon- Grandfather of Beat 'em ups. Renegade came before Double Dragon. A case could also be made for Kung Fu Master being the grandfather of beat em ups. Karate...

Re: Most Innovative Games?

Interesting topic! In the 80's, at the height of the arcade craze, there were a ton of weird/odd/unique games, so I'll limit a quick 5 to those I enjoyed at home. I have to give a shout out to these games for originality/innovation: 1) Tetris - It spawned a ton of rip-offs, and when it was original...

Don't forget to use the Arthur Award icon.

Mach Rider deserves the Arthur award. Tough game.

It's also unusually gritty for a Nintendo title.

Re: Most Innovative Games?

There were some innovative arcade games in the early 80s. You have to wonder what the heck they were smoking when they came up with some of these.

Pac-Man
Q*bert
Joust
Marble Madness
Qix
Snacks'n Jaxson

Re: Super Mario Bros. 2

Oh, how I wanted this game when I was a kid! But I kept on getting in trouble. I almost had it in November 1988. We were going to go to Toys R' Us that evening after school, but the teacher had called home right as I was putting my coat on. What I did was at lunch, I ate my bag of Doritos, then stu...

Re: 2018/10/11: Genesis: Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi, Incredible Crash Test Dummies, The

Goldenband: I am SHOCKED to discover it's just "Crash Dummies" and not "Crash Test Dummies". You are probably correct that I am thinking of the band, but Crash Dummies just doesn't sound right! I'm surprised by this as well. "Incredible Crash Dummies" just sounds weird...
