Re: Most hypocritical video game reviewer moments?

The biggest hypocrisy that I've seen comes from the critics of the critics. For a recent example, there's the folks who care way too much about characters wearing revealing clothing. Heaven forbid anyone say anything one way or the other about that mess. The folks pretending that Mortal Kombat 9's i...

Re: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

I own the Switch version. The best way to describe playing it, is to imagine it's a launch title for the SNES CD. It combines the absurd load times of the Sega CD when jumping or falling into new areas with Super Ghouls N' Ghosts worthy slowdown whenever things get too demanding. The winding path ar...

Re: Ever buy a console for one specific game?

I came so close to buying a Colecovision for Tarzan. And buying a Master System for Galaxy Force. And my love of the Atari ST was entirely based on screenshots of Weird Dreams and Double Dragon II. Back then, it was almost impossible to know what the boxes actually contained. You couldn't just look ...

Re: 2019/6/30: Game Gear: Outrun Europa, The Lost World: Jurassic Park

Outrun Europa is like taking an introductory course in everything wrong with European design at the time. Anyone planning to get into the Amiga/ST/C64/Spectrum/CPC scene should give it a play, as a way to temper expectations. There were better games, but the standard of an average action game was no...

Re: No boat racing games?

Finally, have you played H2Overdrive yet? It's an arcade exclusive spiritual successor to Hydro Thunder. And unlike the last two games, there's no need at all to add a cautionary warning.

Re: No boat racing games?

There's AquaMoto Racing on 3ds eshop. Reviews are mixed, due to frame rate issues and it's not the most exciting stage design, but some claim it's a hidden gem.

Re: First CD versus vs First Streaming Consoles

The first CD consoles gave us RPGs with stories and characters that didn't need to be compressed into a Megabyte or three. You only need to look at Secret of Mana, which was originally designed for CD, and had to be gutted to fit into a cart. From the Escapist: The game is an exciting wonderland of ...

Re: No boat racing games?

Riptide Renegade was more than worth the $4-5 I paid for it. There can be a bit of grinding involved, unless you want the extra challenge of attempting a perfect run; but the levels are beautiful, in an over the top 90's arcade style.

Re: First CD versus vs First Streaming Consoles

The CD medium gave more to the players. Streaming takes it away. The biggest problem isn't the concept, it's the greed of corporate America. Internet providers spent the money they were given to upgrade their services on Washington lobbyists, instead. They've gleefully announced plans to piss on the...

Re: Should I buy an original Game Boy?

Only get an original Gameboy if you want to know how much worse things used to be. Pixel soup fog was common in action games, and lighting was hard to come by. I'd argue it might still be worth it for the historical context, but you no longer live in the world where these games were the best mobile ...
