Awesome Games Done Quick 2015 (Charity Speedrunning Marathon)

They raised over a million dollars again nearing close to $1.5 million! I pitched in and bought the $30 tier on Humble Bundle with 100% of proceeds going to Prevent Cancer, the main charity for these events. A couple highlights for me were the Ninja Gaiden Relay Race (where all three NES Ninja Gaide...

Legacy PC/Mac gaming

I'm not really an avid computer gamer, but I wish there was a Windows alternative to DOSBox where older Windows-only software can be played quite well on modern PCs as DOSBox has. If y'all are interested in legacy PC gaming, I'd highly reccomend the Youtube channel Lazy Game Reviews; the owner of th...

When did video games go mainstream?

To answer the follow-up questions, I think games going mainstream is good and healthy for the industry, much like all other entertainment media and I feel not much is lost in the process as niche games are still on consoles, PCs, and mobile devices; however, I feel consoles are losing their identity...

When did video games go mainstream?

In the USA, they were mainstream when Pong became a massive hit, with many consoles centered around the game along with primitive racing and lightgun games. The market nearly crashed when Pong-overload set in; Taito's Space Invaders helped maintain the industry until a few years later when gaming be...

Which system is the undisputed king of RPGs?

SNES/Super Famicom is often considered as the king of the older home consoles, followed by the Sony PS1 and PS2. Also, handhelds such as the Game Boy Advance (w/ Game Boy and Game Boy Color compatibility), Nintendo DS (with Game Boy Advance compatibility), Sony PSP, Nintendo 3DS (with DS compatibili...

Games You're Looking Forward to in 2015

Off the top of my head: New Nintendo 3DS XL (I did want to get a 3DS XL, but ever since the announcement, I'm holding over my Original Model until this releases) Bloodborne (In my opinion, one of the only worthwhile PS4 exclusives) Mighty No. 9 (Even though it looks underwhelming graphically, I'm co...

2014 in Video Games

It was a great year for the Wii U and PC; the more sucessful next generation consoles haven't had as much exclusives, though. This year definitely proves gaming is going backwards as the majority of the most celebrated PS4 and Xbox One games are multiplatform; what makes a console great is exclusiti...

Awesome Games Done Quick 2015 (Charity Speedrunning Marathon)

Sweet, I look forward to these! Pretty good lineup too! I'll probably throw some money at the Punch-Out!! Wii portion for the Donkey Kong fight. I fail to see what's so awful about Karnov and King Kong 2, though.

The Byte Before Christmas (Atari 2600)

Regarding the Santa's Scabs minigame, it seem the manual was printed before the final release copy of this game. Here's a trailer for the game in its beta stage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9e4XPDDnbg Santa's Scabs looks a bit different, doesn't it? Still, I quite like the minigame; it's my mos...

Outages and Offline Gaming

I'm largely a single-player guy far more than multi-player, so of course I'm in favor of offline single-player and multi-player. Unless there's a crucial update patch or updates with DLC with them, single-player only games should remain offline; I feel the idea of any games having mandatory online i...
