The Dark Side of Online Gaming

Good article, but I don't really agree with the lack of good downloadable games argument. I know for the Eshop there are a ton of games I want to play and have received good reviews. I don't have a PS3 or Vita, but I constantly see great reviews of downloadable games on those systems.&nb...

"New" 3DS and 3DSXL

I'm curious about the 3d. It's supposed to work much better, meaning you can view it from different angles. I personally like the 3d effect, but it's such a pain to keep it in focus. You almost have to sit perfect still.

Free time for gaming? How do you fit it in?

[QUOTE=scotland17]Family man here too. Gaming time limited, and other hobbies, relationships, workouts, etc. Oddly, while the culture at large does not see portables as very adult, its got major advantages over consoles. Game for short intervals, or in room while others watch tv, etc. Mobile gaming ...

Free time for gaming? How do you fit it in?

I'm almost 40, married with 2 kids. I'm finding less and less time for gaming, and I'm wondering how do you folks fit it in with your lifestyles?

Generally my kids are in bed by 8:00pm, so after 8:30pm or so I have time to game. However, I still need to spend time with my wife...

Boring Games = Boring Magazines

[QUOTE=videogamecritic]I think today's magazines reflect the uninspired state of video games.

When you leaf through old magazines (try it sometime) the reviews are splashed with color. Not only are the screenshots interesting, but they are usually accompanied with a lot of nice illu...

Boring Games = Boring Magazines

It's a different time. Back in the 80s and 90s, when you saw a preview of a game with screenshots, that is all you had. No previews on the internet, video or discussions on forums.

The glory days of Nintendo Power, Gamepro and EGM are long gone. The thrill you get...

Instant Fun

[QUOTE=videogamecritic]Scott and I were introducing some oldies to my younger friend Chris like Crazy Taxi (Dreamcast) and Super Monkey Ball (GameCube). It occurred to us that the games were pretty much instantly fun as soon as you picked up the controller.

They don't make games lik...

RGB Output in consoles from the 80s and 90s

I don't do RGB (yet anyway), but I do have everything from NES - PS2 running through the Framemeister. Looks great and zero lag!

One of these days I'll go the RGB route.

I use the following for my systems:

NES - Composite
SMS - Composite
Genesis - Com...

Best and Worst Cartridge designs

I would say Master System carts are the worst. No end labels, no art, no different colours. They all look exactly the same except for the title. The most boring cart design ever. (and box design for that matter).

What were their marketing people thinking??

Unexpected Audience, such as Brony fandom

[QUOTE=Atarifever]Man, what is it with people and the brony topic? I was at Sci fi on the Rock (the biggest geek convention in Newfoundland) last year and I had a furry (an honest to goodness furry with a tail) tell me they thought bronies were losers.

I'll say the same thing...
