Re: What was the challenge you just couldn't beat, no matter how hard you tried?

As for good accomplishments, I was good at a lot of the Digital Pictures FMV games on the Sega CD (e.g. perfect score in Night Trap, beat Sewer Shark, beat Double Switch, beat Ground Zero Texas, etc...). My wife and I got a perfect score/the best ending in Night Trap too (32X version). Pretty satis...

Re: What was the challenge you just couldn't beat, no matter how hard you tried?

Super Mario Bros world 8 (seriously). Growing up, my brother and I would take turns where I would play levels 1-7 and he would play 8 and beat the game. This has led to a scenario where I can practically do a perfect run from 1-1 to 7-4 (with or without warps) but once I get to 8-1, it all goes out ...

Re: Classic CD-ROM games compatible with Audio Players

A lot of Sega CD games include the in-game audio as separate tracks. Turbo CD/Duo games did this as well. Most "modern" (yeah I know) CD players will skip the data track (track 1 typically) and just start at track 2. Older players will play track 1 but it's just some digital noise. Won't d...

Re: Sega Genesis Mini review

Good review. I was debating picking up the officially licensed Genesis mini but after doing some research, I decided to go with the last Atgames (hold your eye-rolls) Sega Genesis Flashback HD console which was produced in 2018. This one not only looks the part (much better than the prior 2017 model...

Re: Afterburner!

The PC Engine version of Afterburner II is really good and a solid port of the arcade version. I always found the Sega ports on the PC Engine (Outrun, Afterburner, Golden Axe, Altered Beast, and Space Harrier) to be well done. It's a shame the US market only got Space Harrier. If you're looking for ...

Re: Stadia launch lineup announced and still do not care.

So is this thing completely DOA? I haven't heard much about it after the initial launch week. On another semi-related note, this year I picked up an Nvidia Shield TV for Christmas to replace my Ouya which is pretty much crippled now that the servers are gone. The Shield has functionality similar to ...

Re: your favorite FMV game?

*I Googled "partial-motion video" out of curiosity and actually found a few references to it, but none of them agree on what it might happen to be. When I hear this term, I think of Plumbers Don't Wear Ties or Zelda on the CD-i (e.g. static images that quickly shift from one to the next g...

The one that got away...

As a kid you received a game - maybe for a birthday, maybe a holiday. You played it, liked it (or hated it) and then you got rid of it. Maybe you gave it to a friend or traded it in. Maybe it was just lost somewhere. The only problem is now the game is super rare and worth a ton of money. I figure i...

Re: your favorite FMV game?

I'm not sure I would count Mansion of the Hidden Souls (great game) as FMV as there is really no FMV to speak of. It's all computer-rendered (no live action). There are a few more I did think of though that I want to add to the list: Voyeur (CD-i/PC) - for whatever reason I always liked this game Ph...

Re: your favorite FMV game?

I really like the majority of the Digital Pictures releases for the Sega CD (and other systems). For me though, it's a tie between Double Switch and Sewer Shark for my favorite. Sewer Shark was the first FMV game I ever beat followed by Double Switch. Of course the acting is really what makes these ...
