Re: Nostalgic and/or Favorite Video Game Mags

For me, it was Electronic Gaming Monthly. My cousin and I always used to go to B. Dalton or Waldenbooks in the local mall and pick up the newest issue whenever it was released. It was awesome looking over the reviews and previews of upcoming games (and drooling over pics of Neo Geo and 3DO systems w...

Re: Best retro co-op games to play with kids?

My daughter (8 year old) loves to play the original Mario Bros with me. Also if you have an arcade box (like a Pandora), she is a fan of the Simpsons arcade game.

Re: Modern Full Price $60 Video Games with YouTube style ads that are unskippable!

What if they start offering discounted versions of games with ads? So you can buy a $60 version ad-free, or a $20 version with ads. How would that go over? I'd be okay with this and it's pretty much how the Amazon Kindle is marketed. You can pay 'x' dollars for a Kindle which contains advertising o...

Re: 2019/7/4: Atari XEGS: Frogger II: Threedeep!, Pitfall

XE and 5200 games are usually identical, I remember the scorpions are very difficult to jump on the 5200 version. Is the same true of the XE Pitfall? I'd say they are probably harder to jump on the 5200 due to the lack of precision with the controller. AFAIK the 5200 version is a direct port of the...

Re: First CD versus vs First Streaming Consoles

Very fitting topic as the Ouya servers just went offline effectively rendering them semi-functional (and new old stock or factory reset ones as paperweights). I'm still annoyed by this - I actually like the Ouya. In the early 90's when CD-ROM based games were starting to take hold (with consoles lik...

Re: Modern Full Price $60 Video Games with YouTube style ads that are unskippable!

FYI, these ads are entirely skippable. It's a "feature" you can turn off in the main options menu. Not sure why they decided including ads in the game was a good idea (maybe to make it more lifelike, as actual NBA games are full of commercial breaks?) but you do have the option to turn th...

Re: Modern Full Price $60 Video Games with YouTube style ads that are unskippable!

If you are paying for the game it should NEVER contain supplemental advertising of any sort. This is a very slippery slope and I don't like it one bit. While advertising has been a part of video games for literally decades (road signs in Pole Position, the easter egg Adidas Predator commercial in FI...

Re: Time to stock up on cheap 360 games.

I can't tell you the last time I bought a game and actually played it. I buy games all the time for a number of systems but I don't ever play them. I basically just catalog them (to prevent me from buying a duplicate in the future) and put them on a shelf. Regarding 360 systems, it seems like every ...

Re: Anyone else totally underwhelmed by Cuphead?

I agree that Cuphead is an artistic masterpiece that's not particularly fun to play. What was the point of making it so hard? Because game developers have forgotten that games are supposed to be fun. It's all about making a game now that takes a long time to beat so people play it longer. It's almo...

Re: 2019/5/30: Game Boy: Super Mario Land, Duck Tales

Yeah, the A+ for Super Mario Land seems a tad overblown. It's a perfectly competent game, but just about every subsequent portable Mario platformer blows it out of the water. I recommend the sequel Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins as well as the main four Wario Land games (the first of which is c...
