Re: When did console gaming jump the shark?

when console gaming Jumped the Shark How about the Playstation? Before that gaming was certainly big business, but never seemed so corporate. Nintendo and Sega lived by video gaming. With Sony came a giant conglomerate, with diversified businesses that could swallow losses. Nintendo and Sega helped...

Re: Is Nintendo going to back to cartridges (SD Cards) for the new NX?

I don't mind Nintendo going in this direction if they want to provide better value, I just doubt they will based on what they do now. I agree with some of their philosophy, I think games have been made into a commodity lately. Just look at the Steam sales, and you can end up with 20-30 games for $6...

Re: Game recommendations for brain/cognitive growth

You might try the Brain Age games on the DS. Those are good suggestions MoarRipter. Games like Advance Wars on GBA or DS, or KingTurn games on mobile are turn based strategy games with no ticking clock, and each scenario is a new puzzle to solve. Many RPGs or Roguelikes make me feel like a hamster ...

Re: 2015/12/2: Wii U: Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash

That last part is a doozy, although you hedged with 'gives the impression' instead of just calling a strike a strike: "The exuberant charm of this whimsical sports title may be enough to win over younger gamers. For everybody else, this lazy effort gives the impression Nintendo is running out o...

Re: Is Nintendo going to back to cartridges (SD Cards) for the new NX?

All this is still speculative, but maybe Ninty is going to flashcarts. This would leverage their handheld base that is comfortable with them to boost sales of a flashcart console. The console would be a way to play your portable games with a GPU boost on a big screen, with online multiplayer. It mig...

Re: The Walking Dead [SPOILERS]

The mid season finale was dull. It reminds me of the first half season at Herschel's Farm that brought complaints on the slow pace. Then we had several episodes in the search for sophia, but at least then we had a solid mid season finale closing off that entire story arc with no cliffhangers. This t...

Re: What game system's lack of sucess shocked you?

Videogame history is littered with consoles that looked great on paper. The success of a console is usually tied into its library. There are other factors, like price, controllers, expectations or marketing, but a console that looks good on paper is still dependent on having great games, while avoi...

Aeon Avenger (Mobile RPG)

Aeon Avenger (Mobile) Grade: C+ RPGs are a genre that can do well on mobile. Aeon Avenger is a 2012 game. Its one of several mobile JRPGs from Japanese company Kemco, although they also make JRPGs for the 3DS. The game has the retro 2D sprite 16 bit look we are familiar with, no 'free to play' annoy...

Re: What game system's lack of sucess shocked you?

To throw another hat in the ring, I would add the Intellivision. It's the first system I had as a kid, when my parents brought it home I didn't understand what it was. Yeah, the controllers were garbage, but I later realized many of the games were better than what my friends were playing on their 2...
