Re: 2016/11/30: Nintendo 64: Goldeneye 007, 007: The World Is Not Enough, Perfect Dark

What do you mean when you state "this game hasn't aged well"? It can't just be graphics because Warlords and Adventure have very primitive graphics, yet they're considered timeless classics. Just curious. I really enjoyed Goldeneye and Perfect Dark when they came out. Oddly enough I got mo...

Family time at Day of the Devs

This past weekend my 16 year old son and I went to the Day of the Devs in San Francisco. This is where indie developers can showcase their new games and ideas. The main reason we went there was to see a preview of Yooka-Laylee (due out Q1, 2017 on all consoles), the sequel to Banjo Kazooie and that ...

Re: Confess Your Unpopular Video Game Opinions

1. Even though we got into it more than once, I miss Steer/Steerforth/Segatarious. 2. Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie are two of the greatest games ever made. 3. As much as I loved the 2600, compared to the INTV or the CV, the 2600 has not aged well overall. 4. Graphic updates of games like Skyrim for th...

Re: Confess Your Unpopular Video Game Opinions

1. Star Fox 64 and Bioshock Infinite are below average.
2. Classic arcade game Galaga is good, not great.
3. Digital downloads are not evil.
4. Clasic arcade game Bagman is awesome.
5. INTV controllers aren't bad at all.

Re: 2016/10/19: Intellivision: Dracula, Tutankham

Great reviews as usual VGC, and I completely agree with the C grade for Dracula. The game is extremely creative and unique, but just not that fun to play. Which is a shame, because it had the potential to be a great game. I bought the game in late 82 or early 83 at American Sew and Sound in Pittsbur...

Re: Photos of people playing home video games from way back

Absolutely love the first pic by Scotland with the boy in the orange shirt playing a CV. The living room is pure simplicity, much like mine was back in the day. Brought back a ton of video gaming memories. Hard to believe I was playing Pong with my sister at home over 40 years ago.

Re: Is E.T. on Atari 2600 really that bad?

Under the circumstances I think HSW did a fine job; any fault in the situation belongs to Atari, whose corporate arrogance at the time was legendary, and fully deserved the fate it met. The more I read about Atari executives, the more that 'arrogance' does stand out. I will have to learn more to be...

Re: Is E.T. on Atari 2600 really that bad?

Timing also played a crucial role. On December 7th, 1982, Atari released its quarterly financials which were way lower than had been expected. Warner, the parent company, saw its stock price drop an astonishing 35% in one day. This spelled the beginning of the end for the industry (until the NES cam...

Re: Gaming rumors that do/have annoyed you

A laser disc add on for The Colecovision? Never heard that one. I should clarify this one. I believe it was Video Games magazine that stated back in 1983 that CV was in talks with Cinemetronics to license Dragon's Lair. The writer speculated that perhaps a CV laser-disc add-on might come as a resul...

Re: Gaming rumors that do/have annoyed you

Early 80's video game mags were full of vaporware or products that never saw the light of day, such as the INTV III and INTV IV, the Colecovision Super Games Module, Odyssey 3, a 2600 Keyboard, and a laserdisc add-on for the CV. However, I didn't really find this reporting annoying, but rather fasci...
