Re: VGC Anti Atari??

I've been told that there are actually threads on Atari Age discussing how I am biased AGAINST Atari systems! Are you guys aware of this? What do YOU think? I've not run across a thread like that. Mostly when I see mention of you there its due to a new review such as this for Super Cobra Arcade and...

Re: Warlords Action

Just realized all the images are gone from when I discovered and documented the "suicide trick". At the time I was creating a disassembly for Warlords as my original plan was to hack it to add multi-ball, but ended up writing Medieval Mayhem from scratch instead. I've created new images an...

Re: Who didn't own a NES in the 80's?

Not me. Family xmas gift in 1980 was an Atari 2600 with Space Invaders and a number of other games. The following Xmas I got a Commodore VIC-20. I gamed on it as well as wrote & ran my BBS, The Dragon's Lair. Over time I ported my BBS to a 64, then 128. Over time my BBS & custom terminal sof...

Re: 2018/5/31: Atari 2600: Super Cobra, Super Cobra Arcade

Guess I could have linked to the documentation ;) Atari had the Stella Programmer's Guide , but a lot of the third party companies had to reverse engineer how the Atari worked so were at a disadvantage. It's interesting to look at the terms used in the Coleco's documentation : ⋅ VIC (colec...

Re: 2018/5/31: Atari 2600: Super Cobra, Super Cobra Arcade

John actually said that, not me ;) but yes, the we have better resources than they did back in the day. Some of the key things are ⋅ great community support support - other programmers frequently help out, artists (both pixel & audio), play-testers, etc. ⋅ better development ...

Re: Bosconian clone comming to the Atari 2600!!!

ZeroPage Homebrew played through all sectors of the A, B, Γ and Δ quadrants in Draconian. Took almost 3 1/2 hours.

Re: 21 Unexpected Games to Love for the Atari VCS (Book)

half true. True because trying to play a game with an emulated a paddle is an exercise in frustration. I've tried with a mouse, trackball, and analog joystick. Using a keyboard or digital joystick isn't even worth considering. False because you can use a real paddle with emulators. I own a Stelladap...

Re: 21 Unexpected Games to Love for the Atari VCS (Book)

You're welcome! I don't know when they began. On the 2600 menus are expensive to implement, there are not any built in resources (BIOS, character set, etc.) to take advantage of, so they weren't feasible until much later on. In Medieval Mayhem the menu (routines and graphic images) use 6K alone out ...

Re: 21 Unexpected Games to Love for the Atari VCS (Book)

do any homebrew 2600 games have 20, 50, or more variations? Look for homebrews that feature a menu. While I was writing Space Rocks somebody tried to get me to remove the menu, in order to make space for a feature they wanted me to add, and replace it with a Game Selection Matrix in the manual seen...
