Re: Games you didn't think you'd like but did?

When I bought my PS2 I could only find it available as a bundle. I wasn't keen on the choices, but opted for the one with Star Wars: Starfighter and SSX solely because of Starfighter (I'm not much into sports games). After setting up my PS2 and playing a few rounds of Starfighter I figured what the ...

Re: Wizard of Wor question

That's neat. I missed out on this C64 voice peripheral totally. I do remember playing around with some voice software for the C64, something where you could type in a string and it would try to enunciate it. Most likely SAM . The hardware solutions where neat, but were quickly made obsolete once th...

Re: Wizard of Wor question

As a sidenote, this game is known in the VIC 20 community for being vaporware, even having a screenshot shown on the back of some boxes in the top row under Arcade Excitement. Yet it never came out. The VICs short life is probably one reason, but the VIC also has only one joystick port and no hardw...

From the first photo:
Developers wrote and assembled software on a DEC PDP-11 minicomputer, and then downloaded it for testing.

All that memory's emulating a cartridge ROM.

Re: 2600 Keystone Kapers. How great!

I use it in my Homebrew presentation (see slide #31) as an example of how to use the limited objects of the 2600 in order to generate the display. Most of the screen is created by changing the color of the background over successive scanlines.

Re: 2016/9/8: Colecovision: Turbo, Defender

I've never seen a Colecovision in the flesh. Your Turbo review really makes me want to try this. Doesn't seem like it received many home ports either only the Colecovision and Intellivision. Coleco was porting it to the 2600 when the crash happened and it got shelved. A prototype was discovered by ...

Dino Eggs Rebirth (Linux, Mac, Windows)

Like many, I was a fan of Dino Eggs back in the 80s. It's back! Available for Linux, Mac and Windows. David H Schroeder, the original author of Dino Eggs, was involved in the project. I cut the cord a few years back, so installed it on the Mac mini that drives my HDTV. IMG_6880.jpg You can play as T...

Re: Shannara Chronicles

Bought the series via iTunes because I put up an antenna and cut the cord three years ago - saved $4575 since then! I did go a bit overboard in setting up the Mac mini with a Drobo(RAID storage), as I'm using it for more than just recording OTA broadcasts, so my net savings is now at $859. For some ...
