Re: Best decade for television?

For "serious" TV, I'd say my favorite era is probably the 1970s. TV got a lot more conservative and "safe" in the 1980s, substituting empty violence for genuine engagement with controversial issues and depiction of three-dimensional, morally complex characters. For humor, it's ea...

Re: 2017/4/7: Odyssey 2: Smithereens, Mission Impossible

Please note that the Smithereens I had originally on my multicart was not as complete as the version on the actual cartridge. What was missing were the three rounds (with scoring), the victory animation, and some voice effects. I'm not sure what drove me to get the actual cart, but glad I did. Whoa...

Re: 2017/4/7: Odyssey 2: Smithereens, Mission Impossible

Nice re-review of Smithereens. While I can imagine that additional features could be fun, it's still the standout Odyssey² game for me, especially with The Voice.

Re: Fantasia (Genesis)

Is this game horrible or am I playing it wrong? Platforms blend into the background. Controls suck. Collision detection sucks. Seems to me bad design all around! It's a very poor game, and I say that as someone who's usually pretty tolerant of such things. It's playable -- I've beaten it on Hard --...

Ah, but the live seal once sealed is no longer a live seal sealed but a dead seal sealed. Now, send me seven of those, and you and I and Ingmar can talk. (It's a little-known fact that the original draft had Max von Sydow playing strip poker with Death.)

Re: 2017/4/1: Virtual Boy: Strip Poker II

I have this new sealed VGA graded 90 NM+/Mint. Owned by a chain smoker who lived in a smokehouse. Asking $5000. Serious offers only. Will also trade for Stadium Events sealed, Air Raid sealed, The Go-Go's "Our Lips Are Sealed" sealed, Seal's "Seal" sealed, or an Atari Falcon seel...

Re: 2017/3/29: Vectrex: Space Wars

This and Rip Off are my two favorite 2P games on the Vectrex (which is an underrated 2P console, no doubt in part because the controllers are so rare). It's tons of fun, moves along at a nice clip, and always allows for a late-game comeback.

Re: 2017/3/26: Playstation: Primal Rage, Snowboarding

I haven't played Snowboarding, but I'd like to check it out. I have a soft spot for those D3 Publishing/A1 Games/Agetec releases that were originally part of the Simple 1500 Series in Japan, like Tennis and RC Helicopter. They're very no-frills, but that's exactly what I like about them -- no compli...

Re: Looking for Action RPG's.

Gauntlet Legends is great fun, especially in multiplayer mode. My wife and I liked the N64 version the most by a wide margin, but the PlayStation and Dreamcast ports are certainly playable. I also had a good time with the isometric action RPGs Light Crusader and Landstalker on the Genesis. Light Cru...

Re: Floigan Bros. Sega Dreamcast all official DLC released nearly 16 years after the games originally released!

I played through this game a couple of years ago over the course of an evening. It had its share of frustrations, but certainly had personality. I did wonder about all the undiscovered DLC, so this is great news. :)
