Re: 2020/5/5: Lynx: Viking Child, Dinolympics

Niiiiice, Lynx reviews. :D Pleasantly surprised to see that Viking Child is a better game than I'd thought; I remember playing it ages ago and getting put off by its slow-motion feel. It looks like it's trying to be a Wonder Boy in Monster Land clone, which is good source material to clone, I suppos...

Re: Hottest Video Game Babes

The Princess in Skull & Crossbones (on the NES) -- https://i.imgur.com/hvuP4d8.jpg -- was pretty well-calibrated to appeal to pubescent lads of the heterosexual sort, i.e. me in the late 1980s/early 1990s. Or at least, she and Chun Li are the only "video game babes" I remember noticing...

Re: Dina Console

Oh, yes, the SG-1000 has near-identical architecture to the ColecoVision. The differences lie mainly in the BIOS and, obviously, the controllers. Converting SG-1000 games to ColecoVision (or vice versa) takes expertise, but can be done. The Dina's big advantage is that it lets you play SG-1000 games...

Re: New handheld with physical carts - Evercade

Really positive review from the people at Digital Foundry, who generally know their stuff. I was particularly pleased to see that it's a very low-lag system.

Re: Tennis (Game Boy)

Definitely the best of the three tennis games on the monochrome Game Boy. It offers a stiff challenge, especially on Level 4, until you find a pattern that consistently works. In my case, that was (1) serve out wide, (2) hang back for just a moment to make sure the CPU doesn't lob you, (3) put away ...

Re: Atari Lynx Box Art: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Funny stuff. The jacked, brooding fellow on the cover of Switchblade II reminds me somehow of the lead actor in the legendarily awful/hilarious film Samurai Cop. That Robotron art is incredibly bad! What on earth is going on with the shape of the guy's head? And: do I detect some foreshadowing that ...

Re: 2020/4/18: Genesis: Herzog Zwei, Phantasy Star IV (Guest Review)

I have to admit that Herzog Zwei left me stymied when I tried to play it. It's held in such high esteem, I feel sure there has to be a rewarding game lurking in there. I seem to recall that, as with your friends, it just felt like an endless stalemate to me.

Re: 2020/4/14: Neo Geo Pocket: Pocket Tennis Color, Puzzle Bobble Mini

Though I'd prefer to be able to just turn them off, I don't mind replays and animations too much as long as they're skippable. Jimmy Connors on the SNES does a good job with this -- you can just hit Select to interrupt almost anything, and it makes the game go by much, much faster.

Re: 2020/4/14: Neo Geo Pocket: Pocket Tennis Color, Puzzle Bobble Mini

Love seeing new Neo Geo Pocket reviews and new tennis game reviews! What a treat. I'm not surprised that Pocket Tennis Color plays well -- the design looked very promising to me. I have some memory of reading that there are a ton of different tournaments/trophies you can win, all varying by the real...
