The first boss hurdle?

You're playing a game. It's really hard. You make it through the tutorial, but then you hit a solid brick wall. You're stuck on the first level for days, maybe weeks. Maybe you give up and play something else. Or maybe you stick with it, until, finally, you beat the first level's boss. Congratulatio...

Re: Video Game Memories

I used to have RPG Maker 3 on my PS2. It was a really crappy game maker, but one thing my friends and I never got tired of was making cutscenes. They were just your typical "talking heads" scenes, but we would spend hours making up the stupidest stories to tell with them.

Re: Choose Your Own Adventure?

Are the worldbuilding links really that bad? I'm going for a Mass Effect/Dragon Age thing here, where the reader can choose to learn, or not learn, as much as they want about the world the story takes place in. The things that move the story forward will always be at the bottom of the page, so they'...

Here's a link that should work. It's nowhere near done, but this'll give you an idea what I'm trying to do. http://philome.la/AdamBolander1/graylands-beta

Re: Video Game Memories

I remember when my grandma got me a SNES for my 4th birthday. I came with Donkey Kong Country, and my only experience with video games to that point was a couple games of Pacman. My mom hooked it up and played with (re: for ) me while I watched. Neither of us understood the concept of jumping on top...

Re: Choose Your Own Adventure?

Question: would you guys be willing to play a CYOA game on computer with absolutely no graphics whatsoever? Just a black screen with white text?

Most Innovative Games?

One of the biggest gripes people have about video games today is that they're all clones of each other. What are some of the most innovative games you can think of, ones that do something that is entirely their own thing? - Katamari Damacy. Do I even need to say why? - the Persona games. Combining a...

Re: Choose Your Own Adventure?

Yep, I'll have to find another way to share it around. For now, I'm trying to decide how deep I want to go with it. I could go full on Mass Effect and have everything you say change how people treat you, but that could easily take years to finish. It might be less immersive, but I could also just li...

Re: Choose Your Own Adventure?

I went ahead and threw a few pages together. The story doesn't really go anywhere yet, but this is how the whole "game" would go. I intend to have branching paths based on the player's decisions. What do you guys think? https://twinery.org/2/#!/stories/94481a74-9cae-4db4-8eba-bd4e63f248e2/...

Choose Your Own Adventure?

I'm thinking about trying to make my own Choose Your Own Adventure game with Twine. Not sure if I can call it a visual novel, since it likely won't have any art, but it'd still be something you play on the computer/phone. Any tips for writing one of these?
