Re: 2019/6/7: Genesis: Last Battle, Paperboy II

One would have been tempted to buy Last Battle in 1989 just because of how good the graphics looked on the back of the box. You usually only saw sprites that big and detailed in the arcade.

I've never played, but watching a Youtube video it does look like Black Belt with upgraded graphics.

Re: Has anyone actually ever repaired a game disc without resurfacing?

I once fixed a Crash Bandicoot disc by smearing toothpaste on it. That was the only time that the toothpaste trick worked for me.

Re: Games you where shocked the critic gave high grade despite it reception and/or controversy surrounding it?

What other people think about a game should have nothing to do with your own score. Hivemind sucks. What does Hivemind mean? You know, like a beehive or ant colony where the group takes precedence over the individual. It's another term for groupthink where your stance is influenced by whatever is t...

My vote is Yooka-Laylee where despite getting mixed to somewhat negative reviews, namily the infamous Jim Sterling 2/10 review, but he also is not a fan of the Unity game engine and calls it a crappy engine thanks to shovelware junk that comes from it, and the now infamous JonTron situation controv...

Re: Very hard games that were intended for young children

There was a really good article a few days ago on Kotaku, I think, about how Sega tried to get more girls involved in gaming in the early Genesis days. Just found it -- it's on Polygon: https://www.polygon.com/features/2019/5/27/18526122/sega-girls-task-force-female-players Speaking of the Genesis ...

I'm thinking of games that are more specifically intended for younger children, such as based on children's movies and TV shows. But they're surprisingly hard given the intended audience.

Very hard games that were intended for young children

This post was inspired by the Critic's review of Despicable Me for the Playstation 2. I find it hilarious that it has the "suitable for children" teddy bear right next to the Arthur award for extreme difficulty. Can you think of other similar examples?

Re: In Praise of Short Games

Now that I think of it, I'm surprised the Critic has never reviewed a version of Shadow of the Beast, though I don't expect him to like it much. The Genesis port gets a lot of guff for running faster than intended (a 60Hz vs 50Hz issue) but I found it completely playable and even addictive. I'd exp...
