Re: Game Review Recommendations?

"Skyblazer" is a solid SNES platformer. It's short, not too difficult and has a password feature so you should have no trouble finishing it to review. I would be interested in your take on "Dracula X" for SNES. I haven't played it, but I'm a big fan of "Dracula X" for t...

Re: It feels good finally beating the first two Ninja Gaidens on the NES.

I tried the third game and the Critic is right that the difficulty really ramps up on the second stage. I might just take a break from NG for now. Since you are using emulation, you should try Ninja Ryuukenden III, which is the Famicom version of Ninja Gaiden III. It's quite a bit easier than the g...

Re: All the way through?

"Batman" for the NES. The rest of the game is like an easier Ninja Gaiden, but the Joker is a royal pain in the butt. Feels great when you finally beat him.

Re: It feels good finally beating the first two Ninja Gaidens on the NES.

Congrats on beating these two tough games. I've taken cracks at them before and both games are definitely in the legendary "Nintendo Hard" category. They require a lot of memorization and quick reflexes. Congrats. The first two "Ninja Gaiden" games are surprisingly doable with s...

Re: Hardest Donkey Kong Country Levels?

These levels gave me the most pain: Screech's Sprint (DKC2) ... Ugh. Final boss (DKC2) Lightning Lookout (DKC3) ... Double ugh. Poison Pond (DKC3) ... I had to turn the controller upside down and it was still tough. The mine cart stages from the first game are also kind of annoying. I beat these pla...

It feels good finally beating the first two Ninja Gaidens on the NES.

I'm in my late 30's and have been playing these on and off since I was a kid, but never beat them until now. I used an emulator but didn't resort to save states. What makes the first NG so hard is that you're back at 6-1 whenever you die on the final bosses. In order to beat the game you must get go...

Re: Most and Least Comfortable Controllers

In terms of comfort, I'd rank the 7800 dead last. In addition to being ultra-stiff they are the most cheap-feeling controllers. Thank goodness you can use other Atari joysticks for most of the 7800 games. Not to mentioin 7800 pack-in title requires you to hold down a button the entire time you're p...

Re: What's your "Favorite" game? Ever.

Super Metroid It's like a work of art that sucks me in every time I play it. I've beaten it a number of times over the years. Usually when I've beaten a game, I'm done with it. But the best SNES games such as Super Metroid, Zelda and Secret of Mana have so much replay value and still look and sound ...

Re: Most and Least Comfortable Controllers

Most comfortable: Genesis, SNES, Playstation. From the NES and and onwards, most pads are pretty comfortable. Least comfortable: Controllers with side buttons such as the Atari 7800 and Intellivision are least comfortable for games that require a lot of button presses. I don't know why they thought ...

Re: Is the cute and easy platformer genre dead?

I would't call the Yoshi's Island games easy, some of those secret levels are insanely difficult(Endless World of Yoshi's anyone?), and getting 100% on every level will drive you nuts. I thought that the original SNES "Yoshi's Island" was pretty challenging just playing it straight throug...
