Damn. Not sure how I missed the "original". Apologies for the brain fart.

Critic, if I donated the price of a few of the better downloadable portable games, so you lose nothing at all by owning them, any chance they would join your review queue?

Re: Wrestling Game Reviews by Rockofhysteria

May I suggest the Intellivision's wrestling game as one that might surprise you? Mattel Electronics were the sports kings of their day, and it's far more sophisticated than you might expect from the late 70's technology. Also, will you only be doing console reviews, or is everything fair game? I'd l...

You might like Rogue Legacy. It's like a parody of Symphony of the Night. The difficulty is cranked up, and you play a family of demon slayers who meet their horrifying ends in a castle of chaos. But whatever you gain, carries over to your descendants - it's a power rush when everything finally clic...

Re: Retro Gamer Magazine

I'd really advise picking up all the back issues you can. Sure, it's mostly written from a British perspective, but think of the European scene as a mirror universe where Nintendo was clueless, arcade ports were hit or very miss, and literally anyone could code the next big hit from their bedroom. I...

Re: 2017/11/17: Sega CD: Revenge of the Ninja, Starblade

I never said I wanted to completely replace the libraries we received. There were many early 3d games that wouldn't work without textures to provide their character - Silent Hill would look ridiculous, if it were done like an early Alone in the Dark. Only that I just wish there were more retro games...

Re: 2017/11/17: Sega CD: Revenge of the Ninja, Starblade

You might get a kick out of this game, critic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iL9GyISJ2uU I wish there were more anarchistic oddities like Starblade. Console 3d was always one generation behind what they were trying to achieve. We could have had perfect wireframe driving simulations in 16 bit, and ...

Re: 2015/9/22: Super Nintendo: California Games II, Phalanx, Tinstar

"Heavy huh?" is the same as "purple cow", and other marketing terms all meaning the exact same thing. In a crowded field, try to find a way to only ever be compared to yourself. And that cover totally worked on me as a kid. The story of an epic space battle that was handed down f...

Re: 2017/10/28: Atari 2600: Guardian, Ikari Warriors

So, would Guardian be a good starter game for anyone we're trying to share our hobby with, or at all decent for zen meditation? Also, how were Ikari Warriors, Klax, and Kung Fu Master able to bring an NES style experience home, while Double Dragon is nearly unplayable? Did they just run out of space...

I've never played any serious sports sims, but for whatever reason, I love reading these series reviews. They're some of your best work - giving life to some of the most unjustly forgotten games out there.

Re: 2017/10/13: Turbografx-16: Ghouls 'N Ghosts

The only advice I can give is to plan your double jumps in advance, and play defensively, while looking for chances to be aggressive. It's all about knowing when you've got an opening. Also, the SNES game is the much harder sequel to this game, thanks to longer levels, new enemies with better shield...
