Arcade Paradise?

Postby VideoGameCritic » June 28th, 2022, 4:43 pm

I guess I should reserve judgement, but I find this upcoming collection of 35 games highly suspect. I thought it might be a bunch of long-lost games that were never before available, but then I notice they won't mention any titles or companies.

Instead I think it's just a bunch of low-budget games done in the "spirit" of the 80's arcades. It doesn't bode well. What made those games "classic" was how their gameplay was perfectly honed. You can't just bang out a bunch of old-looking games and expect the fun to just happen. Thoughts?

The games are part of a strategy game where you turn a laundromat into an arcade. I think it's cute that you can actually play them inside the game. Take it for what it is.

Here is the ps5 release. As you can see it is as above. Then you get to play these arcade games but they not real arcade classics but variations on a theme.

It has to be better than Pac Man Museum.

So you clean toilets, throw out trash and play arcade games that never really existed? Looks awful to me. I’d be much more excited to find a real laundromat that had even just one functioning arcade game in it.

If the arcade "homages" are decent and playable, I'd be interested in it. Not a fan of the set-up (and REALLY not crazy about the notion of a marketing bullet point being a voice actor for an authority figure that insults the protagonist... that bodes ill for the tone of the game).

If the games are accessible from the start (most likely need to be unlocked, I'd wager...), I'd be down. Sadly, this looks to be trying to be artsy/angsty with the theme and using nostalgic-inspired games as a carrot.
