The soundtrack's so iconic that I don't mind the repetition. I can't enjoy the PSP version without those tracks being modded in.

Up until a few years ago, I had no idea that there was a version of this game on game boy advance! actually plays pretty well.

Speed up the emulator and it's spot-on.

Shame about the graphics, though. Sega's 3d engine is low resolution even by portable standards.

My friend visited recently and we took turns on Crazy Taxi for a few rounds. Definitely not something you play for a long time, but probably my favorite arcade game for just a single round. It made the Dreamcast worth it all by itself.

I only played the arcade version of Crazy Taxi around 1999 when I was working in Tokyo and hitting the arcades on the weekend. It’s been a long while but I do remember Crazy Taxi being fun to play and quite original. And reading VGC’s reviews shows the game was ported well.

There was certainly more than just one, but I think *this* game above all else is what finally convinced me I should buy a Dreamcast. Now at the time I think it had just been discontinued and were easily had for $50 or less at the local Gamestop or whatever, but still I'm glad to have gotten one and Crazy Taxi is definitely a 'must have' if you own a DC system. Great pick up and play fun.

Has there ever been a game more visually appealing that Crazy Taxi? Its bright vivid graphics just leap off the screen.

I had a very similar experience recently, myself!

I had some friends from high school come and stay at my place for a few days. No small feat, as I live three time zones away from both of them, but it's something we'd been planning for years. We went to a few local arcades and played some oceanfront golf, but when we settled in back home, it was time to hit the game room.

One of them immediately noticed the Dreamcast. "Ooooooh, do you have Crazy Taxi??"

Seriously. The two are forever linked in many gamers' minds, it seems.

We never did get around to firing up the Dreamcast, unfortunately. We got sidetracked playing Virtual-On with two twin-stick controllers on the Saturn, and spent a lot of time with the Thrill Kill prototype for the PS1.

Next time, though? We're definitely going to be ready to make some cray-zeee monaaaay 8-)
