Intellivision Sprint

Postby matmico399 » December 4th, 2025, 1:49 pm

If anyone is interested they came out with this. I could never get into INTV because some of the best games are two player only. That hasn't been corrected unfortunately. There is also no cartidge slot. It appears to accept roms though.

Isn't this just a glorified "flashback"?

I also wonder why they keep pushing these things out when so many have been done before. And no D+D games or Microsurgeon. The games seem pretty much the same as the others.

Just a heads up for those that are interested.

And it only has 45 games instead of the 60 the Flashback has. $125 to $150.

There is a thread in Video games General for this console. It has generated a little interest. I think the big thing is the wireless controllers, if they are good will be better than the wired into the console ones of the first Intelli or the removable ones from the Intelli 2

A cartridge slot would have made this a slam dunk!

I ordered mine but still have not received it. I am super excited about this product. Honestly, not sure what all the complaints are about. 45 games is plenty and you want to know why there is no AD&D game? Licensing! People have also complained about the price but I don't have a problem with it. Atari had to spend money acquiring the Intellivision brand, had to develop the product and market it, etc, etc. Thus, they need to charge a certain price point to get a return on their investment. Also, the lack of cartridge slot is not an issue for me as you can simply add ROMS but I think the 45 games will keep me plenty busy. I will provide a short review once I have received it and have had a chance to put it through its paces.

I will be anxious to hear how the controls feel. I never thought the original Intellivision controllers were very comfortable, and the Intellivision II models were even worse.

Heck, just the wireless part will be a big win, as I always feel closely tethered to the system.

Do you guys remember several years ago when AtGames released those Colecovision and Intellivison Flashback consoles? On the Intellivision version, they had the "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons" game included but retitled "Crown of Kings." The pack-in overlays were identical to the originals (except for the title). Maybe Atari will eventually do the same with the new console.

The Sprint has landed! So far, I only spent an hour or so with it but I am enjoying it for sure. I can't wait to dive into it when I have some time. Growing up, my friend across the street had an Intellivision and we would play the system for hours on end. B-17 was probably one of our favorite games and I got to spend some time playing it today...for the first time in like 40+ years. I can't believe how complex the game is for that time period, the controller, with its overlay and additional buttons was way ahead of its time. As far as the controller goes, I find it reasonably comfortable and responsive and I don't miss the wires at all.

I received my Sprint on Dec 20th, and have put it at least an hour a day since then. So you know where I'm coming from, I have a couple of old original Intellivisions, along with a collection of about 65 carts, including some newer homebrew games. My thoughts:

Pro:
- every game I've thrown at it so far runs.
(I have plugged in a USB thumb drive with an add'l 60 favorite games.)
- HDMI instead of grainy blurry RF connection is great.
- Controllers that are wireless instead of curled cords is fantastic.
- the carousel for selecting games works very well.

Con:
- I've seen several folks on AtariAge complaining that the controllers don't well for them, including not registering directions.
I want to emphasis that I have not seen this issue myself. I've found the controllers compare very favorably with both of my old Intys. How many of the new consoles have these issues, I cannot say.
- The color palette was off, so you would see weirdness such as water in Auto Racing that was pink instead of blue!
A firmware update has been released on AtariAge for beta testing. I've tried it and now the colors are as expected.

Overall, I'm very happy with mine.
