Genesis. Alien 3 help

Hey All,

I luved playing Alien 3 on my Genesis was I was in my early 20's. I've had to reacquire some things....including Alien 3 on the Genesis. I am having a blast with it as I had before but I have one problem. How do I save the game? I made it to level 3 and still have not seen a save option and I forgot how to. It seems to me this game had a password to send me back to my saved level. Can anyone help?

Are you certain you've reached level 3 and not just mission 3?
