Happy 25th Gameboy

Postby namegoeshere1 » May 31st, 2014, 5:37 pm

The damn DMG Gameboy ruined my eyes. Not Nintendo's fault though, staring at anything pea green soup colored for hundred of hours at a distance of about twelve inches would have the same result.

Man, how come everything is getting so old? The PS1 is almost 20, and the 6th generation is already more than ten.

The History Channel recently had a show Top 101 Gadgets That Changed the World (not inventions like the screw, but gadgets as useful tools building off of inventions). Top gadgegs were light bulbs and the syringe. The original Gameboy made the list near #50, in the neighborhood of aerosol insecticides, the leatherman, audio tape and the polaroid camera.

The portable game playing brick with the shades of monochrome screen has carved out a place in tech history it seems. Based on the commentary, the judges gave it credit as an arcade on the go and the beginning of mobile gaming. I can debate both, but not that the Gameboy has a strong legacy.

Of course in 1990 I certainly enjoyed my polaroid camera more than I would have a gameboy, but thats just me.

My word that just screams late 80's early 90's at you doesn't it !
It does seem familiar perhaps used in places like Toys 'R us or bespoke gaming shops ? I feel I've seen it before.

I OWN one of those kiosks. It's one of the holy grails in my collection.

Tell us the story, brave Sir Galahad, of how thee came to acquire the grail so Holy? Did thoust stumble across it surrounded by a lake of fire and brimstone, or mayhaps it was guarded by a fierce R.O.B.ot?

I noticed someone on craigslist had one up for sale. Dropped a good chunk on it. But it was too cool for me to pass up. I have mine with Quarth in it at all times. Literally the perfect kind of game to have in it.
