Yessir, Astron Belt
used a the Genesis Effect from Star Trek 2
for background footage in one scene. Astron Belt also used clips from Message from Space
, a 1978 Japanese Star Wars
cash-in. It may have used clips from Battle Beyond the Stars
too, but I can't be sure without looking it up. Message from Space
is kinda fun, but it's really, really, over-the-top. Good FX for models-on-wires though.
Astron Belt had a follow-up, Galaxy Ranger.
Here's some info on that: http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/games/pages/gr.asp
AtariHQ.com used to have a fairly good section detailing the history of these games, but they've taken it down.
I suppose I could find it on the wayback machine, but that would take forever...
Edit: I found Atari HQ's articles. They're still online, but Atari HQ no longer has a link leading to their older articles (as far as I can tell) I had to use a search engine to find them. http://www.atarihq.com/coinops/laser/
Here's their article about the Halycon, a LaserDisk based home system from the mid 80's. This article is still accessible.: http://atarihq.com/mainsite/rdi-halcyon/
