Most Nostalgic Soundtracks?

Postby DaHeckIzDat » February 17th, 2016, 1:20 pm

What are your most nostalgic video game soundtracks? For me, that definitely has to be Donkey Kong Country 2. For a game about monkeys jumping on top of pirate crocodiles, it has some amazing background music. My favorites are Stickerbrush Symphony and Mining Melancholy. The other two games have some good tracks too, but I think 2 has the best ones.

Kingdom Hearts is in there too, even though there are only two tracks that really stuck with me. Those are the Destiny Island theme (that song is practically the DEFINITION of summer break), and Hollow Bastion's Theme (dark, slow, mysterious, awesome).

What about you?

I'll quite frequently find myself humming a soundtrack from the original Super Mario Bros or the original Zelda.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is the only game where I loved the music so much while playing it that I actually bought the soundtrack on CD.

As far as games with real songs, there's a few I've really loved over the years, including Crazy Taxi, the old Tony Hawk games, GTA: Vice City, and Jet Grind Radio.

The songs from Sonic the Hedgehog 1? Especially the first two stages - classic.

Kings of the Beach, NES--have had that little loop memorized for 25+ years. Lol
RBI baseball, NES--same
Ninja Gaiden,NES--music to torture my efforts to beat the game
Mega Man 2, NES--check out Bit Brigade's live version if you haven't. It's awesome.

Chrono Trigger- SNES, especially Magus's theme. I didn't play the game until my teens but getting to that section against Magus always amazes me. What a great boss fight. Sometimes, I'll stall out so I can here the song loop more....

Hmm... I still maintain that Nier has the greatest soundtrack of all time, but it was a PS3/360 game, so I don't know if that counts as "nostalgic."

All of the Sonic Genesis games (Including Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine)
Super Mario 64
Paper Mario
The original Pokemon
Ristar
Yoshi's Island
Sonic Adventure
Super Mario Bros
Kirby 64
Donkey Kong Country 1
Crash Bandicoot
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Super Mario Galaxy (The fact that this game is almost 10 years old is a shock)

Damn, that's a lot of nostalgia.
