Final word on most expensive console ever!

Postby Luigi & Peach » March 18th, 2016, 5:43 pm

http://qz.com/642039/heres-how-much-eve ... ost-today/

I had read some articles related to the data from this article that indicated surprise that Neo Geo topped the list. Given that it cost two to three times more than anything else when it came out the results of this study shouldn't be too shocking. I also came away with the fact that if I had been a working adult back in 77 I would have been hard pressed to afford an Atari!!!

Oh, I'm not so sure the Neo Geo gets the title:

That's the equivalent of over $6K today, I believe. :o

Interesting read, Goldenband. Has anything involving laserdisc ever really succeeded?

Apart from the Dragon's Lair arcade game I would say not. I would love the Laseractive with the Mega LD Module though. That would be a lottery win dream though.

While the Halcyon was $2,500 (wow), I don't believe it ever made it to market. According to the link, only 12 were made. Longtime poster and all around good guy Marriott guy has a Halcyon. I remember him posting about it in 2009.

Also, in the above thread Marriott Guy also posted a link of a Halcyon review. A really cool read:

I was wondering if I'd get away with that. I believe you're probably right.

That said, does the LaserActive still get the edge over the Neo Geo?

Being a kid in the early 90's, I remember Neo Geo as the system there were always whispers about (my uncle's friend's brother has one!) but no one I knew had ever actually seen or played one. Of course that's why.

That's interesting...but I wonder where a Sega Genesis/Sega CD/32X Complete system would end up?

Wait, wasn't the PS3 $600 when it came out?
