Re: Early to Mid 1995
I got some Gamepro magazines from The Critic awhile back, and they were from 19994 and 1995 or so, and I also noticed how exciting everything seemed. All those systems coming out, reviews for all kinds of platforms in these huge, glossy magazines, full of screenshots and tips. Big, multi-page spreads about the latest arcade games, and features comparing 6 or 7 versions of a game across different systems. Compare that to IGN doing a paid for week of "in depth" analysis of the next 3DS, PS4, or Xbox One model, complete with video scans of the new button/case/fan shielding, and I'd take 1995 a lot of days.

I love these old EDGE magazines; the breadth and depth of information in 'em is incredible, and they're well produced too.
April '95's issue had Apple as it's lead story; there's even an info box for the Pippin: https://archive.org/details/EDGE.N019.1995.04 The page after the Pippin box is a great old ad for a gaming import company, selling home arcade units and pre-release Saturns and PS1's, direct from Japan. Do these businesses still exist? I want a home arcade unit...
