The Wii Is Really Underrated

Postby LoganRuckman » November 15th, 2019, 11:49 am

It's true that the Wii is one of the most successful consoles ever when it comes to sales, but it's often met with a lot of negativity, with much criticism directed towards shovelware, motion controls, and catering to a more casual audience, but it honestly has such a great library when you filter through the crap. You have the blockbuster Nintendo games like Super Mario Galaxy, The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Wii Play, Kirby's Epic Yarn, and of course, Wii Sports.

If you wanna dig deeper, you'll find a ton of underrated and unappreciated games and straight up hidden gems. Games like Boom Blox, Wario Land Shake It, Link's Crossbow Training, Rampage: Total Destruction, Excitetruck, etc.

Other games worth mentioning:

Mario Strikers Charged
Super Paper Mario
Tetris Party Deluxe
Mario Party 8
Mario Party 9
Guitar Hero 5

The Wii has such a quirky, unique library, and I find the motion controls charming. I've been feeling a lot of nostalgia for the console lately, and wanted to express my appreciation for the awesome games, novel experience, and good times this system provided over the years that helped me get through dark times. I feel it was the closest to the 6th generation systems out of all the home consoles of the era.

Anyone else fond of this system?

Some of the best games ever made came out on the Wii. However like a lot of popular systems, shovelware came out for it but for some reason detractors seemed to focus on that more.

However, some of the best new franchises introduced in the 8th gen were not able to get ports due to hardware limitations. For the hardcore gaming crowd this would have been seen as a big problem.

No argument from me though, the Wii had some awesome games.

My personal stand out title was Xenoblade Chronicles, one of the all time great RPG's. This will be getting an upgrade to the Switch as well. I personally cannot wait.

You also got two Zelda titles, a plethora of Mario Titles, Pikmin, a really decent Metroid Prime disc with three games on it, and a bunch of Indie/smaller titles like Sin and Punishment, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and so on.

I only kept my Wii as a means to letterbombing it, but after keeping it around, I can't believe I overlooked several gems. Beaten both No More Heroes games and loved them, liked Silent Hill Shattered Memories, and still need to finish off Epic Mickey, a solid platformer. I think I'm one of the only people that like the motion controls and controller gimmicks. They're mostly tasted on, but NMH and Silent Hill did them justice.
