Neo Geo CD Speed up?
I love my Neo Geo collection but my Neo Geo CD system is so slow when it comes to loading. A friend mentioned you could get a speedier version if you import it or something? Anybody know about that?

Oh yes. The New Geo CDZ. It is indeed supposed to load faster. Rumor was it was a 2x drive instead of a 1x but if memory serves it actually had additional cache to increase the transfer rate.
Seems to run over 250 on eBay and I don’t think the loading times will be DRAMATICALLY better.

Thank you for shedding some light on this Shapur! I was not aware of this, but now I'm actually moderately interested.

So I was looking at the ebay listings and the cheaper ones do not come with a power adapter, and one listing says they are hard to find. However, I see several cheap ($20) power adapters for the CDZ listed from Hong Kong. Is that legit?

Another alternative is an SD loader:

I wouldn't do this to a working Neo Geo CD, but if I had one with a dying laser assembly, I wouldn't hesitate. Takes some soldering, though.

If you go the SD route, I would think a flash cart for the AES Neo Geo would be the way to go.
Unfortunately I don’t really know much about the power adapters but as long as it’s delivering the proper voltage/amperage how wrong could it go?

The SD loader sounds like a good option if it was available. Sounds like it's still a ways off though.
