Re: Sonic X-Treme
That’s what I’ve been saying. I think not only was the SNES outselling the Genesis by ‘92-‘96 but the wide margin got even wider by the mid 90’s so that they probably were outselling them 2 to 1 maybe even more. The Donkey Kong games among others helped the SNES

Hagane wrote:I think you're wrong there, SNES already outsold the Genesis in 1992, in 1994 SNES only consolidated the lead, you can find sales numbers by year for both consoles. Also SNES sold a lot of software compared to Genesis, Street Fighter on Genesis sold poorly compared to the SNES versions, there are a lot of SNES games which surpassed the 1 million mark, on the other hand only a few Genesis games hit the 1 million mark, let's not forget that the Genesis sold poorly in Japan but where the SNES made a huge sucess, and even it Genesis fared better on the US market, SNES sold more on the american territory.
Dang I cannot find the source/url where I drew conclusions from. CCleaner erased my tracks. According to the site I visited they suggested the total sales was 40M Genesis and 49M SNES with the Genesis outselling the SNES in 91 and 93, with 92 a slight edge to SNES with the SNES only really outselling by a significant margin once the 5th Gen kicked off late 94/95. The site alluded to the concept that Nintendo and Sega were fudging sales figures.
According to this source below, a different picture emerges which shows Sega were behind Nintendo pretty much the whole time, save for 91.

Anyway, I cannot find the URL that suggested the converse so without being able to source that my prior comment is moot.

Re: Sonic X-Treme
The game had to have some major hype behind it, because they were already making merchandise out of it before it was cancelled. I actually came across a picture on Google of a Sonic X-treme audio cassette player and posted it on Reddit!
It's a shame that the game got canned.

That tape player rules. I thought I knew most of the existing info about this game, but I didn't know that!

In Canada, Sears had an annual Wishbook. It was a great day when you got this in the mail each fall. You’ll see Sonic X-Treme appeared in there as well!

I was looking at those prices thinking they were a little more expensive than I recall. Then I realized they were in Canadian dollars.

Re: Sonic X-Treme
I don't think Sega explicitly announced when Sonic X-Treme was cancelled (the wiki page for the game says they did, but the source only says, "the plug was finally pulled on Sonic X-treme in early 1997."). So it's understandable some retailers would still list it as coming out.

A few of these must be placeholders as they differ from the actual North American release box art.
