I saw someone admonished today on another site for talking about the "pie" stage in Donkey Kong. Apparently that's supposed to be concrete instead? I guess it would fit the "construction" theme a little better.
Anybody else noticed this?

Apparently, they're cement tubs.
I never noticed how they're too big to be pies - or that pies don't fit the theme - until looking up the controversy just now.

From the Super Mario wiki:
“ Cement tubs[1] (also known as sand piles[2], cement piles[3] or pies[4][5]) are obstacles found in the level 50m first appearing in Donkey Kong.”

Re: Donkey Kong Pies or Concrete
The answer is Yes.
In truth, I never gave it any thought, though I have heard "Pie Factory" more frequently over the years. I just knew it as the level of DK that lasted a few seconds (I first played DK in the Game Boy 94 DK game; I didn't play an actual classic DK arcade game until MANY years later).
Technically they are supposed to be Concrete for construction, though I always thought the Pie description caught on because it is easier to communicate and visualize.
