I know it's a launch game, and you may think a 2600 launch game from 1977 has aged terribly, but that couldn't be further from the truth. My brother and I always had a blast playing this on our various Flashback consoles (I know, I know). And since the 2600 was way before our time, we had no nostalgic bias or fuzzy memories of 2600 games as a kid. I think that's indicative of a timeless, fun as hell multiplayer experience. But this game is now a nostalgic favorite of mine as an adult due to our Flashback sessions as young'uns. Just insanely addictive.
Combat is a great call. We never had the paddles when I was a kid or I'm sure Warlords would have been top of the list as well.
I remember playing Combat against my dad. Always great fun.
