I just wish Atari could be alive to see it.

I don't count people simply buying the name.

Even Atari's headquarters are gone; Google bought them a few years ago & tore them down to build a new campus.

I agree with all of you guys Atari doesn't really exist anymore (almost like Sega...)? However the new trailer for the new 50th Anniversary Collection looked pretty sweat (even Jaguar games!). I'm almost existed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQKwj_hi-Gc&t=2s

Right right. More like RIP Atari. Too bad you dead.

Don’t ya’ll hate when businesses brag that they been around since 150 years ago, but you know that they didn’t actually do any business for 100 of those years?

You know, even as a classic gamer I don't feel bad about Atari's demise. I mean, if you look at their history, so much of it (if not all) was self-induced. I think you can really trace it back to those Atari 5200 joysticks. It took them out of next-gen status, forcing them to live off the remnants of the Atari 2600 (and 8-bit computers) for the remainder of the decade.

Of course by now Atari is just a trademark some company bought. It really doesn't mean anything.

I think perceptions of what "Atari" means might depend on when you grew up. For a some of us who were kids during the mid to late 1970s, the name meant a lot of things: games you could play at home for free, summer day long multiplayer sessions with your friends, the excitement of "the next big game" as communicated through commercials/print ads/Christmas catalogs, "testing" kid driven game related rumors ("My cousin who works for Coleco told me that if you finish both levels of "Donkey Kong" on the 2600 fifty times, it opens up a secret third screen!"), and quasi-religious debates conducted against non-believing Intellivision or Odyssey 2 owners. Speaking only for myself, my early life was truly enriched by my experiences with Atari and I would not trade my memories of those times for anything. I still play my 45 year old 2600 nearly every day, by the way!

The best thing as a kid owning a 2600 back in the day is I would blow $34.95 on a game, realize it’s a stinker, but force myself that I LOVE THIS GAME!!!

The Amiga was originally proposed at Atari as a game console for release in 1984. Imagine if that had pulled the market out of the crash instead of the NES.

Regarding consoles, what other major success did they have besides the 2600? I cherish my 2600 but I basically have no interest in obtaining the other systems. With the exception of a few exclusives is it really worth it? I mean if you have a lot of cash I understand but for the average gamer I just don't see it. I was interested in the 5200 at one time, but I can get most of those games on other systems without having to deal with the sorry joystick.
