So, I got the latest Zelda for Christmas last year.Unlike Breath of the Wild, which grabbed me immediately, Tears left me feeling both confused and overwhelmed. I put it on my shelf and promptly forgot about it, after two hours of playing it.
In mid-June, I decided to give it an honest go…..and…..
160 hours later, I can’t put it down! I’ve beaten all the temples, the labyrinths, discovered all of the Great fairies, beaten 120 shrines, and now I’m working on upgrading my armor sets. I could beat the game right now, and I have no intention of aiming for anything close to 100%. I don’t know why I keep going.
Nintendo has walked an interesting line with this game, since the surface map is basically the same. The depths aren’t very interesting, and the sky islands are frustrating to get to.
However, I find myself in love with the zonai mechanics, trying to craft really cool, destructive forces of nature!
Even through its flaws, I’d still have to give the game an A, seeing as how I can’t put the thing down! I go back to work on August 13th (I’m a teacher), so I want to be done with it by then.
Help, I can't stop playing Tears of the Kingdom

Looks like the crafting/building sunk its hooks in you!
lol, no worries. Some people love that stuff. I think it’s boring but my kid pretty much only plays games in that genre.

I didn't care for TotK at first because it felt more like dlc for BotW than an actual sequel. Same map, but with a few things sprinkled around on top of it. I also didn't care for building stuff. Apart from fusing things to weapons for extra damage, I only ever built things when it was specifically needed to solve a puzzle. But the more I played, the more into it I got. It never wowed me the same way BotW did, but Hyrule is still just as much fun to wander around in as ever. It also has enough QOL improvements to make goofing around in it more fun than BotW.

That is some serious commitment to ToTK. I absolutely hated this game, just though it was a pointless adventure and really disdained the crafting element. I know I am in the minority on this but I would rate the game a D+ at best.

TOTK is a good game but it recycled too much content. What original content it did have was limited, i.e. the sky islands were tiny, and the underground sections were a cut and paste job (and rather boring). The game is overrated but the ending sequence before you fight Ganon was epic and far better than BOTW's Blight Ganon. I could see TOTK being disappointing for a lore enthusiast or one that requires continuity.

I put 300 hours into it -- I got 100% in addition to completing every side quest. The entire game is just so beautiful, it's easy to get lost in the world. I was not bothered by the "cut-and-paste" of it -- there were enough changes that it felt like a whole new place.
