Recommendation for Switch First person shooter (not Metroid prime)

Postby Voor » May 21st, 2025, 1:49 pm

Title explains all. Haven’t played a FPS in forever. I’m thinking Doom or Crysis…

I’ve tried Metroid Prime a couple of times and it just doesn’t grab me. Doom might be too gory for me.

If you want to dig back in time and look at remasters or rereleases:

Metro (there are two games on the Switch)

Powerslave

Turok (1,2,3)

Metro is really good.

Most of the classic FPS games are available on Switch these days: Doom + Doom II, Doom 64, Quake, Quake II, Duke Nukem 3D, even more obscure ones like PO'ed and Killing Time. Those are definitely recommended.

I also enjoyed Doom 2016.

Good question! If you like retro styled, fast paced shooters with a sci-fi theme, try "Warhammer 40,000K: Boltgun."

All of the Doctor's suggestions a great.. Metro 2033 and last light are class games.

I was not so keen on Exodus .
Powerslave aka Exhumed over here in Europe. It is great, but you may have played it before on the Saturn or PS1. Retro shooter and well worth picking up if it is on sale. https://www.nintendolife.com/reviews/switch-eshop/powerslave-exhumed
Also, it is a rather good album by Iron Maiden.
Turok is great but they are nintendo 64 games upgraded for the Switch, 1 and 3 are the best.

Doom 2016 is good and not as gory as Doom Eternal. Not sure if you will get Doom Dark ages on Switch. I do not recomend any cod games.

I haven't played the series, but have you tried Crysis?

I haven’t but I know it’s legacy. It is on my short list to try.
