It’s true. Just nothing modern is grabbing my interest….in years. I feel like the 3DS’s limitations force some fun creativity out of it, as well as impressive feats—it’s amazing how well some of the games run that seem to have no business on that hardware.
The 2DS is my favorite form factor. I might pick one up, along with:
MK7 (pack in)
Kid Icarus Uprising
New Mario Bros 2
Samus Returns
Resident Evil Revelations
A Mario RPG
Smash Bros
Links Between Worlds
Star Fox 64
Instead of a Switch 2, I'm contemplating a... 3DS?

I don't blame you in the slightest. Not only does the 3DS have a fantastic library of games in its own right, but it's backwards compatible with the massive DS library. Whereas the Switch 2 (which is backwards compatible with the Switch in all fairness) has a handful, if that, of worthwhile exclusives. Maybe it will build up its own huge library of games, but right now, there's not much out there for it.
The 3DS, on the other hand, has tons of games.
I hate retro gaming for this reason.

To be fair, Kid Icarus Uprising pretty much single-handedly stands toe-to-toe with the entire collection of exclusives Switch 2 has right now.

Just remember that the 3DS series is now Physical Purchases only.

I’m with you. Honestly, that initial excitement I had for the console died when I saw that it was following the PS5 model of upscaling games from the previous generation and passing them off as something new. Video game consoles are quickly losing their identity, and the complete lack of new experiences is aggravating. No, I will not buy Metroid Prime Beyond on Switch 2 because I can get it on Switch 1. Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild? This will be the third consecutive generation that has seen Breath of the Wild, which is becoming Nintendo’s answer to GTA 5 (instead of a new game, let’s spend twelve years releasing the same game multiple times)! This practice will ultimately kill the industry, in the long term.
