Great point. For example, the Mario Kart Wii online fan servers are VERY active.

Not that easy, because of Denuvo. The company would have to strip it out for that to happen, which they don't seem interested in doing. Unfortunately, it's not as easy as having fans wanting to preserve a game's servers when a company makes it difficult to impossible for them to do so. For AoE Online for example, Microsoft released the SDK in order to help fans continue development of the game on their own. Something like that is probably what should be standard practice in these situations.

Just think of all the mobile games that have been completely lost to time. There's probably 50 for every console or PC game that disappears. Most notable one that comes to mind is a Final Fantasy 7 spinoff called Before Crisis that contained entirely new and canon stories about Shinra and AVALANCHE. Completely gone as of the current day.

Yeah, mobile gaming is pretty much a lost cause, at least for now, but PC, console and to a somewhat lesser extent modern arcade games can still be saved. I really hope we'll see greater efforts towards preservation in the future.

TBH, it was not very good. It wanted to be Destiny but failed.
