I’ve been hearing rumblings that, starting in 2028, Sony is going to stop including a controller with their consoles.
…..huh? You’re going to remove the thing that you actually need to play it?
So, if they do this, the base console will probably be hovering around $1,000 (the RAM shortage is guaranteed to jack the cost up at least one or two more times), and then you’ll have to pay an additional $100 to even power it on?
Why does it feel like console gaming is going down in flames?
First physical media, now its the controllers

Re: First physical media, now its the controllers
I shouldn't be surprised by this, considering console manufacturers have been figuring out new ways to cut corners for decades.
I remember the SNES came with not one but TWO controllers! Now we get none? What a rip-off.
Fortunately I have no desire to purchase a PS6. I can't imagine what it has to offer. But now I know what it doesn't offer!

What is the source of this claim?
But also, I presume you can just use a PS5 controller to power it on.

This brings up another good point. The evolution of controllers seemed to reach an end about 10 years ago. Now all three systems pretty much have the same button layout.
That's another thing that makes retro gaming so interesting. Each one of those old systems has its own distinctive controller.

In my experience, a lot of those distinctive controllers are not very good. After all, there's a reason if the current design stuck: it's simply a lot more ergonomic and convenient. Personally, for more than a decade now, even when playing very old games from different systems, I just use my Xbox-like joystick (or just keyboard) for almost every game now.

And the controller only works if you purchase the controller app for $5 a month, which is a license that can be revoked

Oh wow I can absolutely see them doing this. It's kind of like how Comcast makes you pay a monthly fee for every TV box.
Oh you want vibration and microphone? That's an additional fee, even though they are built into the controller.

They could have each controller "expire" after six months use so that now you're required to buy a new one.

Wow. If this is indeed true, Sony's just being plain greedy.

The build quality can take care of that
